‘Easy Rider’ and beyond: Best road trip movies

I think Vanishing Point (1971)'s tag line comes close to catching the essence of a roadgeek's road trip: "It's the maximum trip at maximum speed". 

On an historical note, Kowalski took his trip back in the day before pcs, gps, cell phones, etc.  One had to get a radio DJ's help for certain navigational decisions.

At least Kowalski wasn't chased by a old red Peterbuilt truck like David Mann was in "Duel".

Edit: There was a time when Vanishing Point was presented on tv as a Double Feature presentation with "Dirty Mary Crazy Larry".

I've seen a number of threads like this over the years on various message boards, and as the title suggests one of the truly best is indeed 'Easy Rider'.  But I'll mention one I like a lot that is often overlooked:  'Alice Does't Live Here Anymore', which is the film that inspired the sitcom 'Alice'.  The scenes in Mel's Diner are a lot funnier than anything that was on that TV show.

Don't forget about Sugarland Express or Smokey and the Bandit.  Then of course there is National Lampoons Vacation.

For long funny road chase movies, we couldn't forget "Smokey and the Bandit" and "Convoy".

Would just a car chase count, the original Gone in 60 seconds has a 40 minute long car chase that makes the best of a low budget.
