Technically a truck sleep area, not open to general public.

seriously?  wtf?

if I ever take a nap in one of those, and someone comes to arrest me, I will note that it's safer than driving tired.

There's a pair on I-380 just south of Cedar Rapids, and what looks like a "parking only" stop south of Waterloo.
Davenport, IA -> Valparaiso, IN -> Ames, IA -> Orlando, FL -> Gainesville, FL -> Evansville, IN

Revive 755

* There's a welcome center off of the north outer road for I-270 in Missouri just west of the Riverview Exit.

* Used to be one off of I-255 in Missouri at the Koch Road exit (Exit 3), located next to the northeast quadrant of the interchange.

How about the Hinsdale Oasis on the Tri-State Tollway?

The O'Hare Oasis and The Lincoln Oasis as well.

I-390 both directions just south of NY 408 (Mount Morris/Geneseo)

Yep, and a former pair on I-490 (NY) between Exits 28 and 29. These have seen increased use recently as truck inspection areas, as have the ex-parking areas by Exit 3.

And the police will note that you don't belong there, and if you're tired, you can find a hotel room.

Truck-only rest areas also exist elsewhere.

yep, there's a good reason I generally don't stop in rest areas.  usually gas stations are a lot friendlier, especially if you buy a tank of gas in the evening and a caffeinated beverage in the morning.

Along I-135 in Kansas, there are two:

1) Between Wichita and Newton, near Sedgwick: http://goo.gl/maps/1V33E - This has separate facilites on each side of the ROW. Bathrooms, and vending.

2) Between McPherson and Salina, near Lindsborg: http://goo.gl/maps/mYW2w - This one has seprate facilites, the NB and SB lanes diverge to form an island. Bathrooms, and vending.

If we want to be iffy, there is a third on U.S. 81, north of Salina, where the roadway is still Interstate grade (and I think technically part of the system), but without designation: http://goo.gl/maps/rr6ii - It is much like the Sedgwick one, but with the landscaping of the Lindsborg one.

Now, there is a former one on I-470/KTA in Topeka, but it was abandoned for a newer facility further east on I-70/KTA. It now seems to be used by KTA for varia.
Old: (on I-470) http://goo.gl/maps/EaoK2
New: (on 1-70) http://goo.gl/maps/aHzuo

Both were/are traditional service plazas: Gas, food, etc.

I believe that one, at the time it was used, was on I-70, because I-70 used to have a different route through the east side of Topeka before they built the current I-70/KTA/K-4 interchange.  My very first time there, I was driving east on I-70 and I thought it was weird they had the road I was going on curving to the right while I could see a road going straight ahead.

The service area was on I-70, even at that point as I-70 left the Turnpike due south of Exit 365.  See the scars left from the trumpet interchange here: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=rest+area,+1-135,+Kansas&hl=en&ll=39.030286,-95.62058&spn=0.019369,0.042272&sll=37.821812,-94.703181&sspn=0.076478,0.169086&t=h&z=15

Whaaaaaaa?  US 81 north of I-70 is an interstate?  Is it I-135 or unnumbered?

I-280 in California has a few pull-off parking areas (Vista Points), but I don't believe any of them have restroom facilities or vending machines.

And you would be wrong sir.  There is a Rest Area on northbound I-280 after the Bunker Hill Drive exit.  I call it the Father Junipero Serra Rest Area because it includes a statue of him pointing "north".

The Vista Points you mentioned are south of the CA-92 interchange.  All but one are still open.

I-495 (MA) near exits 33 and 52.

Also several further south on I-495 below Mansfield, but they're just parking areas.  In one spot, there's two parking areas ~ 2 miles apart going the same direction.  NB/SB near Exit 33 and the SB one near Exit 52 are technically rest areas but are signed parking areas, as all 3 facilities have bathrooms.

Also another, though not technically an on-highway facility, on I-295 (former I-95) in Yarmouth ME, just across the street from the DeLorme HQ, is signed on I-295 as a Rest Area/Visitor Info Center.

jp the roadgeek

Couple on I-395 in CT.  Southbound in Montville (just past the Mohegan Sun exit) and northbound in Plainfield (near the SR 695 split). Both are full service areas.  Former northbound one in Montville is a State Police barracks.
Interstates I've clinched: 97, 290 (MA), 291 (CT), 291 (MA), 293, 295 (DE-NJ-PA), 295 (RI-MA), 384, 391, 395 (CT-MA), 395 (MD), 495 (DE), 610 (LA), 684, 691, 695 (MD), 695 (NY), 795 (MD)

Many years ago (maybe 30?), there used to be rest areas on I-275, mm 60, on the east side of Cincinnati between Milford and Eastgate.  They are currently both fairly intact (ramps, streetlights, parking areas) and overgrown with weeds.

Very true.. it was on I-70 then. My mistake. There is an open one on I-335/KTA north of Emporia.

Reread the post, Bugo. I never said it was a designated interstate north of I-70... I said it was U.S. 81. Now, it is interstate quality (for about 25 miles or so to Minneapolis, Kan.), and might be part of the system, but it is not numbered as such, as it has always just been U.S. 81. Now, it does make a great argument for a possible continuation of I-135 up to I-80 at York, Neb., someday, as the route all the way there is now expressway quality, and could be adjusted to make it more suitable (think U.S. 71 to I-49 in Mo.), but a new number designation would probably need to go with it since the length would be a little ridiculous for a 3DI.

There's one true rest area on 280, not sure if it has reopened yet:

At any rate, yes the rest area was reopened a couple of years ago.

Oops!

I missed that post.  Question: Did they do a complete building reconstruction, etc.?  (Which I have seen happen to other rest areas, notably the I-80 rest area just before Route 37 westbound towards Vallejo)

As far as I know, the restroom facilities were completely rebuilt and the landscaping was redone.

There are also a few (3?) on I-196 as well.  Michigan also has several on non-interstate freeways as well.

3 for 196 (Zeeland, Saugatuck, and Glenn).
