Rest areas on 3di's

I-271 has a pair near its southern end, between I-71 and I-77. It's the only 3di in Ohio with rest areas, and I imagine they were built with long range 71 - 90 traffic in mind.

Any other 3di's with rest areas? With most 3di's being in metro areas, I would guess this isn't an overly common occurrence.

Depends on how you want to define "rest area", but the unusually long I-476 in PA has two service plazas serving both directions of travel (Allentown and Hickory Run).

Similarly, there was a pair of twin service plazas on I-276 (North and South Neshaminy) which have since been demolished, but King of Prussia remains in operation.

I-280 in California has a few pull-off parking areas (Vista Points), but I don't believe any of them have restroom facilities or vending machines.

Jardine

I-680 in western Iowa has a east and west bound rest area (if they haven't closed them yet, and when they do I'll note it in the abandoned rest area thread, LOL).

West bound also has a scenic overlook, although with the verdant tree growth since it was built, there isn't much scenery to see except nearby trees.

Interstate 385 between Exits 5 and 9 has a rest area within the median that serves both directions.

The High Plains Traveler

According to my Rand McN, there appear to be two pairs of them along I-135 in Kansas, between Wichita and Salina. This being a former directionally suffixed spur, it differs from the vast majority of 3dIs about which this thread is concerned. Also, there is a service area along the Kansas Turnpike north of Emporia, where it is designated I-335 - even less applicable to the theme.

Scenic overlook on I-270 northbound just south of Frederick, MD
IMO I wouldn't count that since it has only a few parking spots and only parking for cars which is why it's a scenic overlook.

Yeah. If we're going to count that, we might as well count westbound I-680 in Iowa. Although that one appears to have some sort of a building.

I probably wouldn't have listed any scenic overlooks in this thread because I don't really consider them rest areas, but since another one was mentioned further up the read I said what the heck.

Another one on I-195 EB in Mass, in Wareham before Exit 21.  Has a tourist info center in summer.

I-684 in NY has a pair.  SB just past the Saw Mill Pkway and NB before I-84 in Brewster.

Eth

Maybe slightly stretching the definition of "on", but there's a welcome center at I-185's exit 12 in Georgia a few hundred yards off the freeway.

How about the Hinsdale Oasis on the Tri-State Tollway?

I visited this one last September.  The tourist kiosk is in a trailer, and the bathroom facilities are port-o-lets! I anticipated something somewhat nicer for a Massachusetts rest area. Though since they are temporary/seasonal, the rationale for the bare-bones facilities becomes clearer.

To be fair, I think this was intended to be more of a picnic area/scenic overlook. There is a boat ramp and picnic facilities.

There was a rest area on I-205 in West Linn, OR, but it was closed and decommissioned years ago; however, you can still see its footprint here:  https://maps.google.com/?ll=45.352175,-122.627453&spn=0.004245,0.010568&t=h&z=17

Yep, as well as the other two, the O'Hare Oasis and the Lincoln Oasis.

I don't think there are any other 3di rest area/service areas in Illinois

There are also a few (3?) on I-196 as well.  Michigan also has several on non-interstate freeways as well.

I just dropped in at that southbound one last weekend. Horrible sinks. Poor restroom in general.

(You beat me to the punch by a few minutes, but I'd already typed this so have it anyway:)

There are also a few rest areas on I-196: northbound (technically eastbound, according to the signs at that point) at about mile 58 (after you've passed by Zeeland), southbound at about mile 43 (south of Holland, just after US 31 has merged in) and northbound at about mile 28 (the nearest exit to this one is for some road called 109th Ave.).
