Making a driving simulator

I'm pretty sure you've seen a thread like this. I'm using this website called Roblox.com to make roads. You probably already know about that site. I'm making a driving simulator in the website based off of western Pennsylvania. The roads aren't sequenced like the ones in real life, its a fictional simulator. I'm also gonna be posting BGS (which I'm 100 percent sure could benefit remaking) throughout this thread. I will be posting those in the simulator. The simulator isn't quite open yet for the publicity of the site but if you have a Roblox account (or can make one) you can send me a friend request and check out what I have done. This is how the simulator is turning out right now. I'm planning an interchange between I-83 and US.30/I-283.
Also please ignore the childish username. I've joined the site when I was much younger.
Here's the progress:

This is one-fourth of a directional cloverleaf interchange I will be constructing. There is also one diamond/loop interchange and a diamond interchange further up the highway with the dark gray asphalt. (I-83)

Here's the plan for the interchange. I screwed up the Exit 4A ramp from US30 westbound/I-283 northbound onto I-83 southbound but you should be able to know what the actual interchange will look like from the sketch. Here:

I still would love to know how to actually make stuff in this program, because all I can do right now is change the height of the terrain and make really simple and ugly roads.

Are you working with anyone else on this? I know of three other Roblox users on this forum.

It's a process of learning to build. You just need to get used to the studio.
It takes a while and I don't mind telling you I used to make thin stripe-less roads and my first driving game was utterly a piece of shit. The BGSes were horrible especially because I didn't use Powerpoint at the time.

I'm not working with anyone on the game but I do kinda know them.

Also do you happen to see a much different layout in Studio than the one I have? They made a new layout of the studio but I reverted back the older version since I find it easier.

Well I know it's a learning process. The problem I have is that there is no sort of guide on what I want to do - which is build highways and cities mostly. (That's what I use Cities in Motion 2 for! I haven't actually touched the main game yet) That's why I stopped using it - though seeing these images always make me want to try it again until I fail.

Also I saw the new interface. Looks okay. I still don't know where anything and everything is.

If you want to see how far I've come since posting my first signs on this forum, you can check out my signs thread. Everytime I see an ugly sign in that thread I just think to myself "look how far I've come." And then I usually whip a better version up to relieve me from the nightmares I might get.  :-P

My older signs were way worse than that. Don't ask me how my lane drop panels looked then.  X-(

I'm also gonna be posting signs for future use for the simulator that I feel need critiquing. I'm working on a batch now.

I'm restricting the game for now to the people in my ROBLOX friends list so if you have a Roblox account you can send me a friend request and check out what I have done so far.

And I will be replacing all those BGSes.

Here's my Roblox skills:

If you couldn't tell by the file name, my patience with this is dwindling. I put up with SC4's RHW mod bugging out SO many times to the point where I had to rebuild an entire stretch of highway, and I didn't think anything could best that. This might. Notice that the second part of the ramp IS STICKING OUT! Why the hell can't I just shove things into each other and line them up right?

I've been stressed by that before. This is a photo of my old simulator a year ago, and most of my friends at that time did not know that I was trying to make a diamond interchange. You can also see that my road turns were terrible as well.

Zeffy

Well, what you posted is better than anything I can do. I can't even figure out how to make a simple diamond... oh, and overpasses? Yeah, that's not happening either.

I remade the games like 7 times already. These are images of what I have accomplished before I said "Fuck it, time for a revamp"
<--- Stripe-less roads again but a heck of a lot better than the first one.

You can also see how I slowly improve in building skills. I put them in a chronological order. The next one is the one I'm working on right now. That game seems to be going good so it does not look like I will be revamping this time.

Zeffy

Those look amazing. Believe me, I'd love to use this program, I'm just unsure how. I don't like to call it quits on anything. Yeah, I put things off... but that's just my ADHD.

Anyway, once I remember what my login is for Roblox I'll send you a friend request on it to try our your game.

I'd honestly like to see how you'd do by going back and redoing some of your old games, namely Infinite Driving II.  That one had a lot of potential and I think you've improved a lot since then.  At the very least, seeing what it would be like with smoother curves and less steep hills would be neat.

And while we're on the subject of Roblox, here's my latest project.

I plan on re-doing all games within the series anyway. I will also be revising the routes and locations. Like relocating Eastwood to the north of I-95. Replacing US-50 with State-route 212. Renumbering Toll Rte 100 to Toll Rte 200 and this time not making it junction with I-195. That map is based off of Maryland.

I'm also impressed by the work on UD IV referring to those images. I also like the drawbridge. Also the arch bridge is awesome.

JakeFromNewEngland

I guess I'll throw in my two cents as well. :p I'm also creating a driving game on Roblox. It really is a great website for designing roads and cities. I know I had a hard time as well in the beginning, but once you practice with Studio it gets a lot easier. Zeffy, feel free to message me if you need any help with your game.

As for my city, I have some pictures of it. It's under construction as of now.

This is a flyover at the I-90/I-85 interchange.

This is one of the wider sections of the map. It consists of a C/D road that connects to the future mall and Exit 3.

This is my favorite part of the city so far. It's a cable bridge, but at night it lights up in different colors. It connects the suburbs to the main city of Burlington.

You can visit it here: http://www.roblox.com/City-of-Burlington-Indev-place?id=98685151

Good luck to everyone building a game.  :bigass:

I'm working on a PP template showing the basics of building roads on Roblox. It's not just for you, it's also for the people who wish to build roads on Roblox because I find it a good tool for making roads.

Okay, I'll let you know when it's complete. Anyways back to the subject, this is what I'm expecting to put in my game in replacement of the old signs. These aren't all of them. I have a few more.

Zeffy

Assuming you're following a normal MUTCD, the shields on all the I-83 signs are oversized (doesn't look like the one with no destinations on it is oversized though) (48x48). On the US 30 signs, your directions seem to be smaller than they should. What font sizes are you using for the following?

* Destination Legend (I.E. Harrisburg)
* Cardinal Directions (I.E. WEST)

Also, if you're using the Roadgeek 2005 fractions (I can't tell if you are, they look similar but at the same time they don't), I would advise using the ones on slide 7 of the BGS Library because they are more correct looking.

I'm gonna make some improvements now. The fractions were some old rasters I made where I just drew a line and positioned numbers.

Do you have a Skype?  That would be a lot easier to help you with than bouncing back and forth on a forum post.

I think this Roblox thing is a pretty good idea! Probably wondering why Kurumi didn't make a Roblox driving simulator to complement his TrippyDrive 71. Perhaps I will venture into that arena, making both real and fictional highways.

It is good, however the site is infested with kids. But don't let that bother you. Also it will take a while to acquire building skills.
