From Sacramento Bee:

Lincoln hopes local control of Old Highway 65 will spur downtown renaissance
QuoteFor almost half a century, gravel trucks and big rigs rumbled through downtown Lincoln as they traveled to Roseville, Yuba City and points beyond. Residents and business owners said heavy traffic from drivers using Lincoln Boulevard as a thoroughfare deterred people from frequenting the shops and restaurants that line the city's historic district.

Lincoln leaders hope that will change, now that the Placer County city has taken over Old Highway 65 from the state. The transfer came nearly two years after Caltrans opened the Lincoln Bypass, an 11.7-mile section of highway that circumvents the city.

Now that the city has control and commuter traffic has been rerouted through the Lincoln Bypass, Lincoln officials plan to turn their main street into a more pedestrian-friendly area.

Has anyone seen a copy of the study referenced in the Sac Bee article?

QuoteIn a 2006 report, Caltrans said studies consistently show that highway bypasses "seldom devastate or save downtowns."  But for business districts that already draw locals or serve as tourist destinations, "a reduction in downtown traffic congestion is most likely to strengthen the downtown."

I have been holding out hope that someone would create Business Route 65 along old SR 65 in Lincoln, but that seems increasingly unlikely. I wonder how the community of Sheridan is handling its section of former SR 65? Google maps currently shows the old route simply as "Old Hwy 65" for now.

Does California 193 just dead end at the old highway 65?
It actually ends at the Lincoln city limits just east of Ferrari Ranch Road.

Within the Lincoln city limits it is known as Lincoln Blvd, and between Lincoln and Sheridan it has been named as Lincoln-Sheridan Blvd.

Thanks Joe; from your perspective, has there been any consideration to creating a business route for SR 65? I'm guessing no but figured I'd ask. Also, is there an established procedure for municipalities to request addition, modification, and deletion of state business routes from Caltrans (either central or district offices)?
