I've lived in Florida for nearly fifty years and I have yet to see one here.

Same for Missouri. I have never seen a runaway truck ramp anywhere in the state.

Of course, I can't think of any roads here that would really need one, either. Maybe US 65 between Branson and Springfield.

These ramps only really exist where there are steep downhill grades.  Florida is much too flat.

Which state has the most runaway truck ramps? ...
So after 4 weeks and 75 replies, what's the answer to the original question?

2trailertrucker

I haven't added up the totals yet, but at first look, PA,AZ and ID seem to be the top runners.

BakoCondors

There's actually two on northbound Interstate 5 coming down off the Grapevine between Fort Tejon and the Grapevine. The original one on the right side of the roadway and a newer one on the left side.

I've also seen a couple on eastbound CA-166 coming down from the Cuyama Valley to the San Joaquin Valley--an elevation change of about 1500 ft.

This is the count I have. Keep in mind, it  is early on New Years Day, so I may be off a ramp or two:

PA has 28 Ramps, therefore, the winner
ID is scond with 15
CA has 14
UT has 12

Other numbers include

VA and AZ with 8
WV with 7 (after all it is the Mountain State)

CO, NC, and OR with 6 each
NV with 5
VT with 4
MA, TN, and AR with 3
NY, KY,MD,AL and HI with 2 each

Each of the states below get a Participation ribbon for having 1 in each state:

CT,WA and MT

Thanks for your help in getting some of these ramps to me. It is greatly appreciated.
Happy New Year.

Where are all the runaway truck ramps in Nevada? I only know of three:
US 50 eastbound, entering Carson City (there used to be two on this downhill, but one was removed)
SR 163 eastbound, heading to Laughlin
SR 431 westbound, in Incline Village

1 Laughlin NV
2 Carson City
2 Sparks

I'm thinking some of your list is inaccurate...

1 Laughlin
*SR 163 eastbound, approaching Laughlin

2 Carson City
*US 50 eastbound, approaching Carson City–I was thinking this one had been removed when they constructed the Golf Club Drive access, but obviously has not.
*US 50 eastbound, just west of US 395 in Carson City–This one is slated to be removed (date TBD), with future completion of final interchange of Carson City Bypass

2 Sparks
*Where??? I've lived in the Reno/Sparks area for 14+ years, and have never encountered a runaway truck ramp anywhere in/near the city of Sparks. I also wasn't able to find anything, at least not on any state-maintained highways, through a quick look on Google Maps.

1 Incline Village
*SR 431 westbound, just east of SR 28–You missed this one.

SR 431 South this could be the Incline Village Ramp.

On US 50 East also

I know there will ramps I will miss. Any info is greatly
appreciated.  I use Google maps to verify all ramps before entering.
On top of that, they are verified a second time by the
"Boss" before being inputted into POI Factory.

Thanks again.

ModernDayWarrior

I never would have guessed that Pennsylvania has the most. My guess would have been a Rocky Mountain state, probably Colorado, which seems like it ought to have far more than six.

I have driven by a few of them. They build them where they are definitely needed.

US 50 East.

Thanks for the Incline Village link.

Neither SR 431 or US 50 are in Sparks...

SR 431 is signed as an east/west route–although if you're heading westbound on SR 431 from southern Reno, you would travel a good deal southward. So that makes me think that your SR 431 and my SR 431 locations are the same...

US 50 East seems to be referring to the two Carson City escape ramps I mentioned previously. There's nothing else near this area.

This would leave Nevada with only four runaway truck ramps, unless you might have coordinates or a map link that I could confirm with.

After doing some checking before bed time, I have found:

The Sparks NV ramps are Incline Village and Carson City

I am showing 3 Carson City ramps, 1 Incline Village and
1 in Laughlin on NV 163.

Thanks.

Here is just three of them on US 30 between Breezewood and Shippensburg PA. Ridgway PA also has quite a few.

35.173178,-114.590600 Laughlin

39.119777,-119.840406 Carson City

39.116894,-119.779342 Carson City

39.253987,-119.970467 Incline Village

You are right. I have only 2 Carson City entries.

Thanks for your help.

For Washington...make that two. There may be others I'm forgetting but I know of:

*snip*
CO, NC, and OR with 6 each
*snip*

I think NC just has 6 on the interstates.  US 421 and 321 have at least 2.  US 221 has only 1 if I remember right, and NC 226 definitely has 1.

gonealookin

The ramp on NV 431 in Incline Village gained some notoriety a few years ago when it failed to stop the truck, to the considerable misfortune of both the truck driver and a nearby homeowner.  Reno Gazette-Journal story on the runaway truck.
