Snowy and seasonably cold this Super Bowl Sunday.

It was a beautiful day today.  Sunny and mid-50s.  Also I wouldn't mind having a superbowl every day if it always meant less people out crowding the main paths.

What a difference a year makes!

A year ago, South Texas area was crippled by sub-freezing temperatures caused by last February's historically frigid winter storm.  In fact in one night overnight lows dropped below 20 degrees in several places, and highs peaked barely above freezing.

Today, not as cold as it was a year ago:

Brownsville:  high 84, low 68
Corpus Christi:  high 82, low 64
Laredo:  high 86, low 61
McAllen:  high 88, low 63
We're so far south that we're not even considered "The South"

After a very warm day yesterday in Atlanta with highs in the low 70s, a rather impressive storm system moved through late in the evening. A few tornadoes were reported earlier in the day in Alabama, but by the time the storms made it here they had organized into a squall line, and a few severe thunderstorm warnings were issued (including one for downtown Atlanta) for the possibility of 60 mph winds. I'm not sure if those verified anywhere in the Atlanta metro, but the storm brought some of the heaviest rain I've ever seen in February. Streets became rivers and intersections became lakes in a matter of minutes.

Although it's sunny today, we're not going to break 50. Should warm back up a bit for the weekend before what looks to be another very warm and wet period next week.

It's been snowing recently, so I've been on plowing duty. Anyways, it's currently -11 C and it's hazy.

Severe Thunderstorms tonight going into tomorrow, then 1-2" of snow on Wednesday & Thursday. The Boston Mountains to the south of me is gonna get slammed by >0.5" of ice.

Somehow we got a light dusting of snow, but localized to a small swath of Island and Snohomish counties.

Temps are set to dip down into the teens overnight (so much for staying in the 40s all month).

Spring is already here in South Texas....at least for the next day or two before another cold front slices through.  Tomorrow's highs are looking at 90s for most of the region, expect some upper 80s along the Gulf coast.  A few locations could be approaching 100 degrees.  Overnight lows in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees.

31 F.  Dusting of snow on the cars and plants, not sticking to pavement.

It is bloody cold in Missoula at 9 degrees, wind chills between 15 to 25 below zero. Currently under a Wind Chill Advisory until 5 AM MST Wednesday for most of Western Montana. The NWS office has placed most valley locations between elevated and significant extreme cold conditions as winds continue to push chills close to 50 below zero in isolated locations and between 30 to 40 below near higher terrain and backcountry areas. I don't see this trend breaking up until after Wednesday evening when the artic front finally pushes out of Montana when we begin returning to 30s and 40s next week.

Today's actual temperatures across South Texas -- before the cold front:

Corpus Christi:  92 high, 71 low
Laredo:  98 high, 68 low
McAllen:  96 high, 72 low
Falcon Lake:  102 high, 70 low

Several places actually did reach triple-digits this afternoon.  Falcon Lake was just two degrees short of tying the state's February record of 104 degrees.

Tomorrow's temperatures -- after the cold front:

Corpus Christi:  74 high, 46 low
Laredo:  71 high, 42 low
McAllen:  73 high, 48 low

Cold, in the 20s. Awaiting the next blizzard (so to speak) that is arriving overnight.

Boy, what a drastic difference this is. Missoula goes from bloody cold last week to unseasonably balmy beginning this week. 47 and partly cloudy right now, but an Avalanche Warning is in effect until 7 AM MST Tuesday for most backcountry areas of Western Montana and Northern Idaho panhandle.
