Heat Advisory in effect for most of South Texas (some locations along US-77 between Kingsville and Raymondville are seeing an Excessive Heat Watch) as temperatures are around 10 to 15 degrees above normal for this time of the year.  Dew Points hovering in the upper 70 to low 80s along the coast, while the Laredo vicinity is spared of the humidity with dew points just short of 70 degrees.

Nighttime Heat Index:  80 to 90 degrees
Daytime Heat Index:  115 to 125 degrees

Some outdoor jobs/activities are on light work while a few others are postponed until after it cools down.

                                    ACTUAL                              AVERAGE
BROWNSVILLE:      105 high; 80 low                    91 high; 73 low
CORPUS CHRISTI:  100 high; 81 low                    90 high; 73 low
LAREDO:                111 high; 78 low                    96 high; 70 low
MCALLEN:              110 high; 80 low                    93 high; 73 low

A cool front this weekend will plunge our temperatures back down to normal for mid-May.

EDIT:  I do wonder if this June will be a repeat of last June (2023), with Heat Index in the 130s for almost a whole week.  Stay tuned, we'll find out next month.

Currently a lovely 17C (63F) and sunny. This afternoon has a chance of showers and a high of 23C (73F). I'm glad I finally got my tires switched yesterday, it was painful driving on the winters the past few weeks in warm weather!

Hunty2022

68 and sunny with a high of 80 today.

One of the nicest mornings we've had all spring. It's 68°, sunny for the first time in several days, and there is a nice breeze that makes it an ideal day to have the windows open and the AC turned off (or, more properly, set at 82° so the system won't run except when the HVAC service guy shows up for the spring servicing this afternoon).

Talk about polar opposites:  Frost/Freeze Advisory for North Dakota, and Heat Advisory for South & Central Texas.

While they're still shoveling out snow up there, we're seeing these conditions:

                                    ACTUAL                              AVERAGE
BROWNSVILLE:      104 high; 84 low                    94 high; 75 low
CORPUS CHRISTI:  102 high; 82 low                    92 high; 77 low
LAREDO:                110 high; 82 low                  100 high; 74 low
MCALLEN:              108 high; 81 low                    97 high; 76 low

It is mostly around 5 to 10 degrees above normal for Memorial Weekend.  Dew Points hovering around the 80-degrees mark all across South Texas, and between 80 and 83 degrees along Padre Island.

Nighttime Heat Index:  90 to 95 degrees
Daytime Heat Index:  112 to as high as 121 degrees in a few places

60F with clear skies.  Nice enough that I went for an unscheduled half marathon run when I got up.

After moderating back to normal in the last couple days of May, our temperatures are back on the rise again.  Temperatures continuously at 5-10 degrees above average as displayed below:

                                    ACTUAL                              AVERAGE
BROWNSVILLE:     104 high; 83 low                   95 high; 78 low
CORPUS CHRISTI:  103 high; 84 low                   93 high; 79 low
LAREDO:               108 high; 81 low                 101 high; 75 low
MCALLEN:             106 high; 82 low                   97 high; 77 low

As for the humidity, the loads of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico could fire off rounds of scattered thunderstorms, and dew points will be mid to upper 70s during the day and hovering right around (or on) 80 degrees at night; in fact the heat index is still in the triple digits all across South Texas at around 21:30 in the evening (or 9:30 PM for those that don't understand military time).  And as usual, winds remain fairly breezy along the coastal areas especially the portion of land east of US-77 with speeds peaking in the afternoon at 20 to 25 MPH (slightly lighter breeze at night).

Nighttime Heat Index:  between 90 and 105 degrees
Daytime Heat Index:  between 115 and 120 degrees

After a particular wet May where it seemed life it was raining every day (nope, it wasn't), and the resulting pressure changes that caused my older mother some pain issues, we are finally in a several day state where there is no rain in the forecast until Sunday. Of course, on Tuesday, May 28th from around 5:30-7:00 AM, we experienced hurricane-force winds (up to 82 MPH for my city) that caused massive tree damage.

As noted in another thread, on the evening of Saturday, May 25th, there was a nasty tornado that passed through Valley View, TX in Cooke County, TX which is on I-35 north of Fort Worth that wiped out a Shell station as well as homes in that area.

Springtime in Texas.
