Quote from: 7/8 on June 30, 2026, 01:18:31 PM... an "orange level warning - heat" for ... the high expected to reach 33C (91F).

Your neighbors to the south are rolling their eyes at you.

Hear, hear. I'm in central Quebec (between Montreal and Quebec city) right now. People here are complaining about temps (official yellow heat warning) not even reaching the 90Fs. I tell them that's nothing compared to south of the border, with the heat dome in the D.C. area, where I and much of my family live, driving temps over 100F and heat indices over 110F.

It is currently as normal as it gets here -- temperatures and Heat Index all over South Texas are right on point for this time of year.

To all the people up north:  You all got to experience average South Texas-style conditions for the Independence weekend; thanks for visiting and come back again next year!  (The North are right back to their typical frigid conditions again.)

                                  ACTUAL                            AVERAGE
BROWNSVILLE:        99 high; 81 low               97 high; 79 low

Yesterday reached 34C (93F) with a humidex of 43C (109F) in Kitchener, outside felt like an oven. I don't care what the south Texas folk have to say, that's fucking hot! :-D

Today is a tad cooler with a forecasted high of 31C (87F), but now we have an "orange level" air quality warning due to forest fire smoke. This article claims Toronto had the worst air quality in the world as of 8am this morning. X-(

Ovens are much less humid...

Three tornado warnings in the last 24 hours now in San Antonio.

It has been much cooler, too. Today maybe around 78 or 79? On my drive to the airport (my daily commute), it was around 74. Didn't even need air conditioning.

The weather app says 81 and sunny, but the wildfire smoke from the upper Midwest/Canada has turned the sky into various shades of gray.

It is 105F in Fresno right now.  The high in Monterey where I started my day this morning is a super "nice" 69F.  I'm glad that I got up early to run this morning before returning home in Fresno.

Ash in the air, so much ash. I was outside for 10 minutes and got a headache.

Whenever the weather is crap everywhere else, it's pretty nice in North Texas. Rain and clouds have kept us mostly in the upper 80s to low 90s all week.

South of us, though, it's been very bad in the Hill Country with up to 3 FEET of rainfall. People were better prepared this time, but there have still been 2 deaths.

Ted$8roadFan

64 and cloudy. There's still an air quality alert for today.

webny99

A combination of fire smoke, haze, and thunderstorms moving into the area had it feeling like a strange twilight around noon today. Currently raining with a Flash Flood Warning in effect.

Right now highs are mostly several degrees above normal by up to six degrees (+6); but we're enjoying a short window of relief from the humidity as the moisture loads have eased up quite a bit....that is until next weekend the arrival of the next tropical system seemingly headed our way -- Tropical Depression #2, which is expected to be upgraded to a TS will bring large amounts new moisture loads.  The dew points have taken a dip and we're enjoying cooler heat indexes as indicated below.....most of the area will remain south of 110 degrees, we'll even see nighttime heat index drop below 90 degrees for a sustained amount of time for the next several nights.

                                      ACTUAL                        AVERAGE
BROWNSVILLE:        104 high; 80 low              98 high; 80 low

LAREDO:                  107 high; 81 low            105 high; 80 low
MCALLEN:                108 high; 79 low            102 high; 81 low

Yesterday and today, it's been 80°F when I walk out the door at 7:15 am, with an afternoon high of 100°F and sun.  It's not even 9am yet, and it's already up to 87°F.

Tomorrow is supposed to bring a couple of days of slightly cooler weather, with highs in the mid-80s to low 90s, and maybe even some rain on Thursday or Friday.  But then the heat is supposed to come back, with the current forecast high for Monday being 106°F.

The switch has flipped to summer for good. Nothing but 100s as far out as the weather forecast goes.
