The Ş→s is allowed. There was discussion earlier about a possible ending the game, and it was decided to use the closest approximation to that letter (transliteration, not closest look-alike). I can't find it, though, because of the search feature's "each word must contain two or more characters" rule prohibiting me from searching this thread for a .

I'm not sure that was ever settled.  All that appears to be settled is that D→ is disallowednoelbotevera ended up making a D→D play instead.  Besides which, none of that conversation included a post by Scott5114, and no update to the OP was made to include a ruling one way or the other.  There's also the matter of what, exactly, is meant by 'transliteration'.  Since both letters are part of Latin-based alphabets, it's not quite the same thing as going from Π to P.  The Turkish letter Ş is pronounced as /sh/.

↓ ↓ ↓

I don't see any place on that sign that starts with "d". Two that start with a weird character that looks like a blend of "b" and "p", but unless you can confirm that transliterates to "d", I wouldn't count it. )What language is it in, anyway?)

Anyway, the first time you posted that photo, it was interesting. But a bit soon to recycle it, especially if you have to stretch to use it.
It's a "", which is the Old English "thorn" letter, and survives in use only in Icelandic. It roughly transliterates into a "th" sound.

In other words, noelbotevera needs to make a different play.

So I think we need an official word from Scott5114 on foreign letters.

Ş → Ş only?
Ş → Ş or S?
Ş → Ş or SH?
Ş → Ş or S or SH?

Broadening this to the original issue quoted above, I should point out not only is pronounced as /th/but also that it also existed in Old English and later morphed into the modern English letter Y (as in Ye Olde, which in modern spelling is The Old).  And so, therefore, the letter could end up being ruled as one of the following:

only?
or Y?
or TH?
or Y or TH?

I want now to play a town ending with a vowel with an acute :bigass:. However that would be easy to solve, as otherwise is a regular vowel (at least in Spanish). We've had cyrillic before.

Arguably a moot point:

Quote from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thorn_(letter) (emphasis mine)
The letter is the 30th in the Icelandic alphabet; it is transliterated to th when it cannot be reproduced and never appears at the end of a word.

Though on the subject of Icelandic letters, there is also my namesake, , which can come into play:

Eth (/ɛ/, uppercase: , lowercase: ; also spelled edh or e) ... is often transliterated as d (and d- is rarely used as a mnemonic).
