Technically it's actually MN-995A, but you're going to have a hard time finding signs for that one.

What's the story behind that route?

CT 372 is the highest-numbered state route, except for the special service roads and state roads, all of which are unsigned:

Turns out that these two are actually not all that far apart.

Maryland (crappy photo due to the weather; I have others of this route marker but don't want to go digging for them...)

I'll take care of New York with 890, the route that carries the extension of I-890 across the Mohawk on the "new" bridge to Glenville.  December 3, 2015.

Of course, there are higher numbered state routes signed in New York, although it's not clear whether they're supposed to be. (I believe 990V is the highest of these–also 961F, 990L, and I forget the fourth.)

Well, I'm invoking OP's prerogative.

Seriously, though, I'd been toying with the idea of having an occasional side-Challenge, maybe something that has to follow a pre-defined sequence, or is predictably finite in scope. This seems to fit the latter category, so why the heck not.

(One possible condition might be that you have to answer the current day's Challenge–or post a new one, if there isn't one already–in order to submit for the side-Challenge. But we won't apply that for now.)

What's the story behind that route?

MnDOT has a set of unsigned 900-series routes. Some of them are simply administrative, like MN-995A (the ~380 feet of MN-95 that goes beyond the east I-94 interchange) and MN-936A (the temporary designation for the new St. Croix River crossing near Stillwater). Others, like MN-988A, are remnants of former state routes that have not been turned back (in this case, it used to be part of MN-88).

March 8 challenge: Post a photo that contains a road sign found in the previous photo. If a photo satisfies both this challenge and the ongoing March 7 challenge, it counts for both.

To clarify, the previous photo currently has a "Speed Limit 30" sign, a "No Turn on Red -" sign, a left-right arrow on a white background, an IN 933 sign, and a no parking sign. (The street signs are probably unique.) The next photo must contain at least one of these signs.

MD 956 was a renumbering of MD 9.  Not quite the lowest numbered route being renumbered as the highest, but this causes me to ask if this has ever happened anywhere (in whole or in part) or with the reverse?

The next photo will contain: White "TO", right arrow on white background, or hospital sign. (As described on Page 5, Business Loop 7 is an error for a state route, and I think it's unique.)

Well, I guess the next one also has to have a hospital sign–if you're allowed to repeat the common element, that is. Or would an "Exit 203" tab also satisfy?

To specify, we're looking for standalone route marker assemblies, as opposed to guide signs with route shields on them (that was the January 4th Challenge)? If so...

...that one wouldn't qualify.
