To me, the image doesn't show; it's just a gray circle that looks like a "do not enter" sign.

Appears to be a glitch in the URL someplace.

Is this really all that rare?  Here's the Major Deegan Expressway (I-87) northbound in the Bronx.  It's over 100 miles from here to Albany.  Trenton and New Haven are also both over 70 miles away.

Can the signs have only large control cities that are all 50+ miles from the sign?

A crappy photo taken in the rain for highway 60 off highway 11 in Huntsville, ON. Downtown Ottawa is 343 km (213 miles) away!

One should do, the "example" photo also had New Haven, which where I was, was about 20 miles away

Turns out I can pull this off without having any non-matching cities in the picture. (This is at the end of I-110 in Baton Rouge.)

Desert regions are hotbeds of content to fit this criterion.

This is at the western end of the I-70/US6 multiplex in Utah.  Salt Lake City is 170 to 180 miles away, and US 6 doesn't even reach Salt Lake City.  It's surely the best route from the Price/Green River area, where this photo was taken, in that direction, though.

A chaotic mess of signage in Flagstaff pointing to Albuquerque and Los Angeles, which are both very far away:

Signage near Toledo indicating that the Turnpike will take you west to Chicago.  There's some signage on I-80 around Chicago indicating Toledo as well.

I originally read this that it had to be close to 50 miles, not way over.  But seeing what's being posted, I'll go with one that has two control cities much more than 50 miles away.  I'll take us back to Flagstaff, at to I-17's northern terminus, where we can see two of the same cities that Paul posted.  LA is about 450 miles away, and Albuquerque is about 325.

Quite true. From Salt Lake City, many control cities are quite far away, and not posted with any closer cities.

So is the East as a hotbed for far control cities.

In this photo, Pittsburgh is 130 miles away, and Philadelphia is 196 miles away.

You think 130 miles is a long distance for a control city? That sounds pretty close to me.

Unfortunately don't have pictures, but Indianapolis consistently lists Peoria (I-74, 213 miles) and St Louis (I-70, 242 miles) as control cities on the west side of town.

Winnipeg is certainly famous for floods (they even have a giant floodway to help prevent them within the city).

Gatineau and Montreal both had bad floods this year.
