October 31: Scariest road-related pic

For me this is scary :-D (taken on highway 75 entering Winnipeg, MB). And to think these are coming to Ontario :-o

There were a lot of these on highway 75 in Manitoba, but this one is my favourite. St. Jean Baptiste - Soup Pea Capital of Canada

I have to say that this is one of the coolest road sign pictures I have ever seen!   :hyper:

I could never pull something like this off, and this picture is actually from my neck of the woods.   :-o  :-D

I love how the signage just "floats" above all of the development, as if it is supernatural and towering over everything, and it is in crystal-clear quality. I don't know if you or someone else took this amazing picture, but whoever did it is a genius and an expert at that, and I thank them for sharing it.

And for those who are curious, this is the location where the signage in the photo is at: https://www.google.com/maps/@34.9566817,-85.2623424,3a,75y,107.16h,92.81t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sInIoW9K5hYSC7l8yK64wZw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

I can't think of any other place I've seen this. The Maurer Rd. overpass over Shawnee Mission Parkway in Shawnee, KS, has a center lane on the overpass, and it doesn't extend beyond either end. Here is a GSV image that shows it better: https://goo.gl/maps/ht3YJceRRww

It seems to me that turning left there would be kind of a bad idea.

Thanks for pointing this out (how did I not notice? :pan:) but this also makes me sad since I was looking forward to posting this photo for a week. I guess I'll have to make a prefix challenge soon :-D

Taking the definition of "suicide lane" just a bit too far! :spin:

QuoteNovember 25, 2017: Road or sign pictures that your friends/family took that they've sent to you.

This is a picture that my aunt (who's family lives in the St. Louis Metro Area) sent me a few months ago. They took this picture on their way back home from visiting us over the summer. This is a photo that was taken off of what I believe is Interstate 255 going west across the Mississippi River on the Jefferson Barracks Bridge near St. Louis, Missouri. This is a beautiful picture that I am glad to have in my collection (that was taken and sent to me by a family member), even though I have never been to this place in real life (as of now).

Thank you.  It's a real photo, not Photoshopped (although I ran it through FastStone Image Viewer to sharpen it up).  I shot the photo from the southbound shoulder; I zoomed in and got lucky on the angle.  As I recall, US-27 at this point is on a hill, which gave the "towering" effect.

My one and only sign picture from France qualifies.  Taken early in morning from inside the terminal at CDG after arriving from JFK, waiting to switch planes to get to Munich.  Also the site of my one and only French meal, a chocolate croissant from a stand in the terminal.  Taken February 11, 2007.

No problem! You did a real nice job with this one, and thank you for your contribution! Snapping the photo on the southbound shoulder on the hillside explains the special, interesting angle of this picture. And yes, at this point, US 27/GA 2 is indeed on a hill, and one that overlooks much of the Fort Oglethorpe commercial development at that. This photo is definitely one that is unbelieveably beautiful and cool, and it was one that took both luck and skill!

Why so? There's no requirement that the photo's subject be near you, or that you have been to it. Heck, there isn't even a requirement that it be a photo at all! ;-)
