I guess it doesn't have to be a town/city name.

This overlaps with the March 9, 2018 challenge, which focused on 20th Century presidents. The ones played so far in the current challenge all are 19th century or earlier, which is good.

All these are from Arlington County, Virginia.

Garfield:

Grant:

And just to be a smart-ass, Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederacy (you said "Presidential", but didn't limit it to presidents of the United States):

Arlington County would love to rename this highway within its boundaries, as has neighboring Alexandria. But right now, state law prohibits such renamings by counties without legislative approval, while allowing that by independent cities like Alexandria.

Anyone remember the Road Sign math site at http://www.roadsignmath.com? It's been dormant for quite awhile.

Maybe we should resurrect the topic here.

While we're on the topic of math, let's try something interesting.

QuoteFebruary 23, 2019: 24 Game Challenge

For those who haven't played 24 Game before, I'll detail the rules for this below. Even if you have, I still recommend reading the rules.

  • Choose a sign or sign assembly (BGS, LGS, whatever - any sign will do) that has AT LEAST four numbers. Exit numbers, distances, and reassurance shields are allowed.
  • Pick four of those numbers.
  • The numbers chosen must have a product, dividend, difference, or sum of positive 24.
  • You can achieve this in any way possible. However, you are limited to adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. You cannot use square roots or other irregular numbers (pi, e, etc).
  • EACH NUMBER CAN ONLY BE USED ONCE. NO DUPLICATE NUMBERS.(i.e. all numbers must be distinct - can't have 2 1's, 2 7's, etc.)
  • Negative numbers are allowed. However, you are limited to only two numbers to change into negative numbers.
  • Fractions are allowed. No irrational numbers.
  • State your submission and your solution for achieving 24.

Hint: I recommend low route numbers - no higher than 30.

Example:

(numbers used in bold)
26 - 11 = 15
15 + 8 = 23
23 + 1 = 24

The 4 numbers on the sign have to get to 24 by adding, subtracting, multiplying or dividing.

I-90/Mass Pike is a TOLL road but looking at this sign you'd never know it.  Today it's not so bad but back when you had to have cash to pay a toll, I'd hope proper signage was up.
I only take pics of good looking signs. Long live non-reflective button copy!
