And about "Eight Street", are you sure that isn't the full legal name? Some jurisdictions, especially in western Canada, leave off the "th" or "st" or "nd" in their numbered street names.

The name of the road is Eighth Street. The sign is in Lafayette, LA, which uses the ordinal form on its numbered streets--and spells them out. (I was born there and lived there for most of my life, so I would know better.)

What about the Dalton Highway, which I played long ago as a "D" in this thread, using a photo of a  street blade saying "Dalton Hwy". The full name, as indicated on a few other signs, is "James W. Dalton Highway", though everybody just calls it  "the Dalton" (or "the Haul Road" or other nicknames not appearing on street signs). I knew that, but what about people who want to play a photo and don't know what isn't on the sign?

I agree that if a "Hubbell Avenue" sign starts (in small print) with "Frederick M.", that additional info should not be ignored. But as a practical matter, we should just go with what's on the sign.

Had I known the actual name of the Dalton Highway was James W Dalton Highway, I would have challenged a sign for "Dalton Highway." Like I said earlier, play the sign, but if someone challenges it, it can be overturned.

I'll make this concession: Any play that is not challenged before three other roads are played after it will stand.

Absolutely none of them do, though. And so far as I know, all mailing addresses along the road are just "Hubbell Ave." The full-length name is, as far as I can tell, a simple legal technicality. For all other intents and purposes, the road is simply just Hubbell Ave.

If it's going to be a problem, I'll just go get a picture of Hubbell Ave outside Des Moines city limits, where that is all it's known as.

Play it. If someone can offer photographic evidence that the sign doesn't indicate the complete name of the road, and they post it before three other people play after you, then we'll overturn it.
