The Natchez Trace Parkway in MS was good for sign-hunting, due to its leisurely pace and usually no traffic right behind you, so it was easy to slow down to take a closer look at a sign, and then pull over if it was worth taking a picture (I rarely take road photos on the move).

Porter Ave.  => Red Dog Road (near Carthage MS, intersecting the Natchez Trace Parkway):

I am the same way–only pictures taken while moving are those on the Interstate and little things that I catch that aren't worth stopping and getting out for, like the Xenwood Ave picture on the previous page. I only took that picture because of its use in this thread. :)

Red Dog Road → Gray Street (Des Moines, IA)

One of many cute road names in eastern West Virginia.

I was surprised when I checked the list of names I've played to find this one not yet played, so...

Diamond in the Rough Road → Highland Street (guess where... :bigass:)

(This is one block north of the other picture.)

NW Pennsylvania Avenue (I never knew it was actually NW Pennsylvania Ave...) ....

It's not. For whatever reason, that sign has it backwards.

Just to be a goof, I'm going to post this painfully pointless photo:

Highland Street >> D Street  :-D (clearly starts and ends with D)

I don't know if you guys have noticed, but this thread and the city name thread tend to dry out when the names end with N.  Makes sense if you have a little Wheel-of-Fortune knowledge, which is trivial knowledge and thus understandable if you don't have it.

Sure, but I didn't have another "D." Worst comes to worst, we go 48 hours without a picture and then I post an "N" that doesn't end with an "N." I took the convertible out yesterday to get an estimate on replacing the top and I took the long way home to get some more pictures for this thread.

BTW, anyone who is familiar with the history of the University of Virginia ought to appreciate that photo. I assume a UVA alumnus was in charge of planning that particular neighborhood because Edwin Alderman and Colgate Darden were both presidents of the University many years ago.

At least this thread (but not the other one) has an N rule, which sometimes offers a way out.

For the other thread, I plan to zip through Quebec next week. The popularity there of place names starting with Notre Dame ("Our Lady") should give me a chance to help, assuming weather cooperates with my picture-taking.

Hopeless Lane (great name, BTW!) ---> Shelley Lane (or Wakefield Chapel Road). Eastbound VA-236 between Fairfax and Annandale. Shelley Lane leads into the Winterset neighborhood with a street-naming theme based on poets–Frost Way, Whitman Way, Browning Court, Poe Court, etc.

That's really cool. Way better than your typical, bland stuff like presidents or trees or whatever.

Under Rule 6, the Y rule doesn't apply here, since the other names in the photo are for places rather than roads.

My only remaining Y___ street name is a rather unhelpful Y___n (with no N-rule alternative), so I'll keep it in my pocket for now in hopes there's a better Y___ out there.
