Flag on the play! A dedication is not a name. (Since nobody challenged it during the allotted time it stands, but don't do it again.)

Nobody, including you, challenged the first sign in this sequence (dedicated to World War I veterans) which I posted almost three months ago, nor a later sign for the Korean War veterans which I posted (appropriately enough) on Independence Day.

I've run out of photos of this kind, except for ones with hard-to-play initial letters (like for the Persian Gulf and Vietnam wars).

So he's supposed to be staring at this thread every minute of every day, waiting for people to slip up?

I apologize for not catching that earlier. I should have. We're playing road names. The highway isn't named "World War II Veterans Highway."

I was working from the "honorary names" clause of rule 3. I'm not sure how "dedicated to" signs differ. You might want to clarify the rule.

Is the name of the segment "World War II Veterans Highway"? If that is the name of segment, then it is playable. But saying that something is dedicated to something is not the same thing as naming it. Proof of the naming would be a sign that says "World War II Veterans Highway."

It sounds like "honorary names" don't count any more. If so, Rule 3 should be updated to say so. If not, please let us know what "honorary names" means, and why it doesn't cover "dedicated to" signs.

Just so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle, none of this affects the state of play. The last name played ended with "h". Here is an H___ that I had thought would fall victim to the "misspelled sign" rule, but it seems the official name actually ends with "Cana" rather than "Canal".

I have to say that I also think that rule # 3 should be clarified for this game.  Having read the rule following the so called 'flag on the play' post, I don't really understand the violation.  A highway designated for a veterans group, in my opinion, would meet the definition of an honorary name.  Rule # 3 states that 'honorary names [including historic or ceremonial routes] that cover all or part of a route can be played'.

If your wording didn't match your intent, fair enough, but if you cared enough to call out the rule violation, I think you have to care enough to clarify your position on what constitutes an honorary name.

Two things:

1. Livernois Ave in Detroit has been played already.
2. A sign calling out an entity which a highway honors is not the same as an honorary name.  "Honorary John Q. Public Highway" is an honorary name.  A sign that says "This highway honors the veterans of the Korean War" is not an honorary name.  If it's phrased as "Korean War Veterans Memorial Beltway," it should count, because it's a name.  Otherwise, I don't think so.

Same happened to me when I went to catch "Alonso V "in order to put V into play, I thought Google Maps was wrong but it's officially named that way despite the king and namesake of the street being Alfonso V.

Good point, covered by rule 11 of this game. There is no counterpart to that rule in the City Name game, which can lead astray those of us playing both games.

jbnv long ago addressed this, as applied to streets with the same name but hundreds of miles apart. They were treated as separate streets, but the same street in the same or adjacent cities would be another story.
