is that a trailblazer or a reassurance?  in any case, good to see the classic US-70 shield.

the next person who finds a state-named I-182 (or I-82) will be the first.

Honestly, I'm not really sure as to the purpose of this assembly since the overheads on this portion of 'The Road That Used to be I-40" through Greensboro took care of all of the reassurance.  I think it was simply NC's way of saying...look how many shields we have on this same stretch of pavement!  :)

but it's on the mainline?

where's that photo of that awful junction assembly with like 8 routes?  it's a lot of NC state routes and, I think, US-701, and I am unable to formulate a google query that returns it.  It was on the FailBlog, that's how bad it is!  :-D

Yeah, it used to be the mainline when I took the photo in '07, but they've since moved the I-40 mainline south of Greensboro on a bypass segment with I-85.

And North Carolina is notorious for signing EVERYTHING, which is a mess but it is kind of nice compared to Arkansas where US Routes are typically not even signed/identified when they are along an interstate route.  That can be quite confusing for the traveler!

the gantry I am talking about has several truck routes and I think one number (23? 32) appears four times... that is a bit excessive.

a lot of states are good at signing concurrent US routes on the mainline, but are bad with intersections, showing only the interstate route.

I don't have opinions anymore. All I know is that no one is better than anyone else, and everyone is the best at everything
