Since I have to make a ruling here, any plaintext number like Jim's sign is treated as if it was a regular shield. Because of this, if US 5 wasn't playable (it was because US 192 → US 5), jumping from 192 to 5 would not be allowed, but only because MA 192 and US 5 are two different route systems.

MA text paddle signs match MA text paddle signs, or they can be played as if they were the corresponding route shield.
