Insurance ads for the last few years:  We have bundling!

That's it.  That's all they've got.  As if the other companies don't also bundle.  As if, at this point in society, people don't already expect discounts on bundles.  But they've got nothing else to advertise.

Quote from: vdeane on June 12, 2025, 08:42:18 PMThe fact that Windows has an "all users" desktop, and that it requires admin rights to change/remove shortcuts from it (even just to hide them).  Got a new computer at work today, and since IT figured out how to install Acrobat on computers easily, I no longer have admin rights like I did on my old one and can't clean it up.  Why do I need desktop shortcuts that I'll never use (and, quite frankly, can't imagine anyone using) for WebEx, VLC, and whatever VMWare Horizon is called now?  I don't use Microstation either, yet I'm stuck with a desktop shortcut for it.  As someone who loves a clean desktop (I don't have any shortcuts on my home computer, though I do have a small number that I actually want on my work computer) and who can't stand clutter, this is very annoying.

I concur. I call the IT people to my office every so often to remove them. They hate it, but it doesn't take too long.

Quote from: JayhawkCO on June 12, 2025, 01:50:21 PMBeing on an online chat trying to get an issue resolved, and then having the agent switch to someone else. Then, they say they're going to catch up on the previous chat, and then ask you all the same questions you've already answered. Then you get switched off to a third agent.....

I hate it when I call customer service and when I tell them what the problem is, they repeat it back to me. I also hate how they often say my name 15 times in a 5 minute call. I pronounce my name with 2 syllables, and they always pronounce it with 3, which bugs the hell out of me.

I'm sorry, Jermy, that you're having this problem. As I understand it, Jermy, you have an issue with customer service repeating what the problem is you're reporting, Jermy, and you also have issues with the pronunciation of your name. Do I have this correct, Jermy?

(At least I attempted to "pronounce" your name correctly, if I'm understanding how you pronounce it. I work with a guy whose name is spelled "Jerame" but he pronounces it "Jeremy," and I also know a guy who's name is spelled "Jerrmi.")
Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

If call center phone trees told the truth:

QuoteYour call is very annoying and expensive to us. F*** you and hang up. You might get results going online, but we don't really care, as long as you hang up and go away.

If you're calling to try to cancel a subscription (that we have not implemented online for reasons), we hope you'll be on hold long enough to give up. Until then, enjoy 8 seconds of compressed, noisy music, followed by a pause, a loud beep, and "a representative will be with you shortly". Then repeat the whole process.

Our menu items have not changed, but we'll tell you they will.

You're not having an emergency, but we'll tell you as verbosely as possible that if you are, hang up, dial 911, yada yada yada.

We are not experiencing a higher than usual call volume, but we'll tell you we are.

We'll claim not to understand what you said when you ask for a human, operator, representative, customer service, or keep mashing 0 until you sprain a finger. FFS will you read between the lines and hang up. Go away.

This strikes me as a major thing.

Right. Insurance is essentially math.

I dunno, ole Discount Double Check Aaron Rodgers probably turned me away from ever considering State Farm.

For shits and giggles yesterday, I picked up a SPAM CALLER on my phone.  I waited a moment, said a gruff, "Hello?", then a moment of silence...

After a brief pause, I hear the caller somewhere in Bollywood thanking me for calling THEM, and how could they help ME???
