This past October I paid a somewhat nostalgic trip to the Palm Springs Area and drove a segment of I-10 that I used to frequent regularly in work travels from CA 86 west through Coachella Valley and San Gorgonio Pass to CA 60 near the Moreno Valley Badlands.  This go around (which was the first time I've been back since 2013) I did make some detours at places like Whitewater and the Cabazon Dinosaurs.  I-10 from Indio west to Beaumont of course is aligned over the corridor once occupied by US Route 99/60/70 on Legislative Route 26.  I included numerous Department of Public Works guides showing the evolution into what is I-10 and added a section on the history of the Cabazon Dinosaurs along with some movie references.

It never ceases to amaze me how fast humans have evolved, technologically. The Bradshaw trail was built less than 200 years ago and we went from wagons to cars like a Tesla moving over 140MPH and practically driving itself(let alone other breakthroughs like being connected to the internet which is still a relatively new concept). For some reason stuff like that really gets me.

Thank you for the article. Good stuff in there.

What I find even more amazing was that the transition from the Bradshaw Trail to US 60/70 took place within a short span of time in the 1920s/1930s out of the construction of Legislative Route 64.  Before that time there was essentially a barren wilderness in the Sonoran Desert between Los Angeles and Phoenix.  That being the case it's no wonder US 80 ended up playing such a huge role in early travel through the Sonoran Desert, it really was the only modern highway for a time.  Having been out to parts of the Bradshaw Trail I couldn't imagine the nightmare it must have been to cross in something like a Model T.
