Does anyone know what these things might be for?

Interesting to see the razor wire on top of that fence around the building to the right.
"You know, you never have a guaranteed spot until you have a spot guaranteed."
—Olaf Kolzig, as quoted in the Washington Times on March 28, 2003,
commenting on the Capitals clinching a playoff spot.

"That sounded stupid, didn't it?"
—Kolzig, to the same reporter a few seconds later.

Assuming that's the electronics cabinet for those cameras, seeing how protected it is makes me wonder even more what those cameras might be doing :eyebrow:
"Now, what if da Bearss were to enter the Indianapolis 5-hunnert?"
"How would they compete?"
"Let's say they rode together in a big buss."
"Is Ditka driving?"
"Of course!"
"Then I like da Bear buss."
"DA BEARSSS BUSSSS"

There's a set of very similar cameras on a footbridge on one of the other roads out of town:

If it's not for keeping an eye on traffic heading to/from the border, my other guess would be speed cameras? It's definitely ANPR of some sort.

That does seem the most likely.  But why would that many cameras be needed for mere traffic monitorinig?

It's the other side of the country, but it sure looks like it's a similar setup. It's also the only news story or anything I could find discussing something remotely close to what was posted here.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. If those are number plate recognition cameras, I was guessing they might be used to check license plates and see if any relate to vehicles 'of interest' to border control. That way the border staff have plenty of advance notice that they are coming.

And that would require more than, say, three cameras in each direction?

I'm no expert on ANPR cameras, but a lot of installations tend to have many more cameras than you would think necessary. For example:

I assume it's to capture every possible angle or position a license might be at.
