I like making them all SPUIs. I don't like any of the alternate Fremont Avenue interchange proposals, with the ugliest looking DDI I've ever seen. I don't care what they do to the stub. I've been down I-10 a few times but haven't had the need to take the stub. I'll have to check it out sometime before the change it.

SPUIs are good! Interesting how the proposals will elevate the arterial roads rather than reusing the underpass structure.

Of all the choices, the hybrid cloverleaf-diamond design (otherwise known as parclo a4) would probably work best for Fremont.  It is a familiar design in So Cal and it will straighten out the Fremont/Montezuma intersection so that all Fremont traffic just drives straight.  Of the interchanges, this is the most important to address, since it will take the brunt of the traffic as Fremont has basically a straight shot to the stub in Pasadena, with a small dogleg at Columbia street.

The SPUIs are a nice touch to fix the "smashed" cloverleafs further east.  These are horrible weaving here, only mitigated by the use of the C/D road along I-10.  A cheaper fix for most of these would be to just remove one of the loop ramp in each direction to convert to either parclo a4 or parclo b4, but doing so would require traffic signals on the arterials.  It may mean less of a need for bulldozing houses, which is always a touchy subject, especially now that freeways are viewed as being racist.  [The property takings are absolutely necessary for Fremont, not so much for Atlantic and Garfield.

For 710 itself, the conversion to an arterial to bring the 710 to Valley at a regular intersection (as opposed to two intersections) would probably improve traffic .  The NB 710 should end with 4 lanes, 2 making a right on Valley and 2 making a left at Valley.  I do regret not extending 710 even further north to Mission, as the more ways you can divert the traffic, the better it would be.  I do acknowledge that the railroad just south of Mission would make a 710/Mission intersection tricky.

Interesting idea but I don't know how that will work in practice on how Caltrans and the City of Alhambra will handle implementing it though.

Seems like an expensive fix.  You have to entirely tear out the existing freeway and railroad bridges at each offramp because there's no way to incorporate a SPUI into the existing structures.  Any idea whether the ADT at each intersection supports such an expense and disruption?
