Northern/Southern Points on Exit Signs

That street view was of US-50 splitting from US-301, what is that sign called, and places where that type of signs are.
I can't find a street view of this but it is where a route's control city is northern/southern point or destinations. I don't remember where I saw it before. Where are signs like that? And for both, are they being created more or no?

It's called a Silly Sign.  DOTs post these when they deliberately want people to get lost, hence the lack of a control city.

Agreed.  There are no control cities on that sign.

In roadgeek circles, we might call that an LGS (Little Green Sign).

It's basically just an assembly of route shields with some green space drawn around it.  As far as I'm aware, that specific type of sign is nowhere in the MUTCD.  You can see a non-green-space version of this in MUTCD Figure 2D-6, shown below (where it says Enlarged, if necessary):


An M2-2 sign (combination junction sign), shown below, is similar, but it's supposed to be used in advance of the junction, not at the gore point:


Even if the route shields were replaced with actual control cities, as in an MUTCD D1-2 sign (destination sign), shown below, it would still be placed in advance of the junction, not at the gore point:

Michigan uses that style of sign very frequently across the state. Typically though, they're used in conjunction with other signs that list a control city.

These signs are pretty common in the Columbus area of Ohio. Here's two separate signs on the I-270 NB  to OH 161 ramp. Unrelated to this topic, but these signs have round corners too, which is somewhat rare in Ohio. A similar setup at I-270 EB to I-71.

In St Louis, MO, Here's one on the ramp from I-270 SB to I-64. Cutout shields are used on the I-270 to I-70 interchange, which I prefer over the green background.

Yeah but with that example there is a sign with a control city on it just before the sign you posted.

There isn't a control city for the WB direction though, it should be Jackson at that exit. Chicago if it's a primary exit.
