The Most Hated Freeway in Each City

Agreed with the Surekill for Philadelphia, I-695 for Baltimore, I-95/I-64 overlap for Richmond, LIE for NYC and I-285 for Atlanta.

Hampton Roads: easily I-64 because of the HRBT.

Pittsburgh: I-376, both Parkway East & West. I have witnessed some pretty intense road rage there.

Charlotte: I'm pretty sure the locals feel that the entire stretch of I-77 from SC to Mooresville sucks.

Can't disagree there. Outside of water crossings, these are my two candidates - I-264 between I-64 and Independence Blvd (daily congestion, heavy traffic volumes overall, things usually are smooth east of there) and I-64 between Greenbrier Pkwy and Bowers Hill (Oak Grove Interchange bottleneck, High Rise Bridge, the whole corridor to Bowers Hill - also the construction that has been ongoing for something like 4 years now that is dragging at a snails pace does not make anything better).

I get I-76 through Philly, but could it be that the first two examples are listed because their segments through their respective cities never got a chance to be built?

I do not want to revive the whole festering issue here, but
(also really is the case with I-76, since the other side of the Schuylkill river was supposed to have a freeway as well)

I'm pretty sure that I-70 isn't the most hated freeway in Baltimore.

It definitely isn't (the parts that are built, anyway) - aside from congestion in the 4-lane stretch between exits 82 & 87 and then at exit 91 itself, the stretch between Frederick & BaltimoreBeltway moves pretty well even at rush hour (much unlike I-270 between Frederick & WashingtonBeltway).

plain nominated I-695 for this prestigious honor upthread and I agree, with maybe I-83/JFX in 2nd.  Somewhat to HighwayStar's point, however: I-695 probably wouldn't be as hated as much as it is if I-70 (& I-83 too, for that matter) had been fully built out - The stretch thru Catonsville in particular suffers for this (although the new 4th lane on the Outer Loop finally opened a month & a half ago).  So, you could say that I-695 gets some added hate for something it had nothing to do with: I-70's shortcomings :-D (not unlike I-495 for I-95 in DC & MA 128 for I-95 in Boston...)

Anyway, all that said I'm sure I-695 would still be the most hated freeway even with a fully built I-70, but maybe just not quite as much ;-) (I'd definitely hate the 70 EB-695 NB ramp a lot less...)

That doesn't have to do with if the residents hate it or not.

Not sure that the original post required residency status, but rest assured if I lived in Baltimore that would be my most hated freeway (or lack thereof). I have lived in both Philly and DC at one time or another so I can claim residency on those if required.

Not sure either, but I think that the intention of the thread was what freeway do residents hate most. I posted about I-66 in NOVA being "embarrassing" and was told that that was not the intention of this thread.

Sacramento area it's US-50 @ CA-99/ CA-51 interchange and I-5 @ US-50 interchange due to downtown traffic.

Out of all the wide range of choices Madison has to offer for freeways, I'm shocked. :D
Yeah, it's an obvious pick. The only other freeways in Madison proper are I-39/90/94, WI-30, and a sliver of US-151.

Don't forget Campus Dr  :-D

skluth

When I was in St Louis, the most hated freeway was I-270, I-64, or the PSB depending on your commute. The winner would probably be 270 because of the sheer number of choke points between the New Chain of Rocks Bridge and the I-55/270 interchange in So County.

Chicago: Basically anything that's not the tollways, but since I have to narrow it down to one choice, I-290.

I'll second that.  The Eisenhower is a piss-poor excuse for a freeway.

I agree. Last time I had to drive on it I got stuck behind some lady doing 43 mph and no one was in front of her. I flicked her off because let's face it your doing 43 mph and your in the middle lane of the Eisenhower Expressway?
