I was trying to remember where I was driving when I saw that kind of two-faced guardrail barrier in the median.  It was definitely I-68 which I clinched less than a year ago -_-   :-P

It was indeed the guardrail, in combination with the pavement markings, that clued me in to MD...and then from there, I-68 is the only one of the six 2di's that is that quiet :-D But good work picking the one spot on I-68 that doesn't really feel like the rest of I-68!  Every time I drive that spot approaching I-70, it's hard to believe you just crested Sideling Hill a few miles back...

Anyways, onward:

"Now, what if da Bearss were to enter the Indianapolis 5-hunnert?"
"How would they compete?"
"Let's say they rode together in a big buss."
"Is Ditka driving?"
"Of course!"
"Then I like da Bear buss."
"DA BEARSSS BUSSSS"

Sapphuby

I'm smelling Midwest. I-57 is my guess.

webny99

I'm thinking Midwest as well, but it has more of an E/W feel, so I'll throw in for I-74.

jmacswimmer

Neither of the first 2 guesses.

Out of total curiosity, what makes something have an E/W feel instead of a N/S feel?  :D

Strangely I can often tell whether a road is N/S or E/W... I don't know that I can put it in to words exactly, and it's not like I have any "rules" or anything for figuring it out, but N/S roads just have different "vibes" than E/W ones. The direction and angle of the sun is a factor too if you can figure out where it is.

Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean anything if it's a road that's running at an angle or in a direction contrary to how it's signed. I guess we'll see if I'm right on this one. :D

I would argue by the sun on that building on the left that it's N/S and this was taken around noon.  It looks pretty parallel to the building from this angle, and if you were heading dead east or west, it would never be at that angle unless you were on the Tropic of Cancer, which obviously this picture is not.

So on that note, I-29 it is(?).  :-D

jmacswimmer

Not I-29 or I-70 - of the 4 guesses so far, I-29 is the coldest.

(And I'm enjoying this E/W-N/S debate, FWIW :sombrero:)

I'd argue even if we weren't playing a guessing game, that would be an accurate statement for about 5-6 months out of the year.  :)

That's if you're crazy enough to live in the Dakotas in the winter :D It gets brutal up there from what I've seen and heard.

My original thought was that this is facing east/southeast in mid morning or west/southwest in mid afternoon. But now that I think about it, the bare trees mean it's probably winter, so that doesn't make as much sense. Still, I can't quite shake the feeling that it's E/W... but we shall see I guess :D

Don't live in North Dakota or East River and you'll be fine. The Black Hills are on the same climate band as Kansas City!

Not X or X-1 (If X is an integer equal to 44).

However, most of the guesses are on the right track with respect to region: Midwest - Great Lakes.

I-80

Correct - this is the Ohio Turnpike a mile east of the Tiffin River/Indian Meadow service plazas. (Which of course means that I-90 would have also been correct.)

As such, an additional congratulations goes out to webny99 for winning the E/W-N/S debate by virtue of nailing it from the get-go!  (Reviewing the spot I picked, it looks like it's roughly east-southeast, depending how technical you want to get :-P)

Nice! This feels like a solid win even though I didn't get the correct answer.  :D
