Quote from: SSOWorld on April 10, 2025, 11:03:17 PMI expect to make it to Sacto by mid-afternoon. I'm in Reno now will be driving around there in the morning - and want to take SR-88 over the Sierra (a 4 hour drive tops).  Hit me on FB Messenger since that's your only contact to me.  Expect a delayed response because I refuse to turn on notifications.  (I'm sure I'll be in the dead zone for some time anyway)

88 is mostly dead between the NV/CA line and CA 26, so yeah. I recommend stopping at the Red Lake overlook just east of Carson Pass (no parking fee or Sno-Park pass required), that may be the only open overlook this time of year. Try and spot the howitzer used for avalanche control next to Red Lake (or drive to it at the Red Lake parking area if so inclined). The Kennedy Tailing Wheels Park (Jackson) is worth a quick detour for unique gold rush history.

Main Street in Jackson is pretty neat.  Lots of old Gold Rush era buildings and a couple antique stores.  Doesn't look appreciably different from when it was part of 49 and 88 (shields on the far right in the photo below):

Update: I'll eat at the game or on my own as I saw an opportunity to enter Calaveras County on SR-26. That will guarantee me every county south of I-80 in the state (after picking up Inyo with a Death Valley side trip Tuesday.

As a matter of fact, I do own the road.

I've been battling some health issues this week and was hoping I'd rally, but I'm not showing much improvement here Friday morning. So as much as I was looking forward to coming to the meet, I'm going to have to bow out (and earmark some of the itinerary for my next time visiting Sac).

Have fun everyone!

I'm sitting at Railroad Fish & Chips in Old Sacramento.  I'll be around for the next hour and half if anyone else is here.

Just got word from cl94 on Tong Road, it is fully open.  We will access it via Exit 31 tomorrow which is slightly different from what the map links have.

Finished editing my Meet photos which can be found in the album below.  The Meet group photo on Sutter Street in Folsom (the Lincoln Highway and Old US 50) can be found below:

I wanted to thank everyone for coming.  It was good seeing a lot of people again and meeting one person from the forum.  I think the highlight on the tour was the old Lincoln Highway and original grade of US 50 on Tong Road (thanks cl94 for scouting ahead.

Likely the next Meet I will be hosting will be out on the Monterey Peninsula during the winter of 2026-2027.

Your photos are missing the circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back explaining what each one is.

I really enjoyed the meet. Thanks!

I'm right now in Battle Mountain NV on I-80, heading east to make it back home for Easter.
