The initial 10 day forecast for Sacramento on 4/12 is showing 74F for the high.  I did check Truckee to get an idea what is going on along I-80 near Donner Pass.  The forecast high there is 55F as of right now.

I have all the baseball tickets on my MLB app and will be figuring out how to forward those this weekend.  I'll also be double checking the meet map links a day or two before the event to make sure they are functioning properly.

Yeah, models are all showing warm and dry from here on out. Should be good weather for the meet and anyone driving in.

Regrettably, I won't be able to make it. I have another event in Oregon a few days before and trying to rush down to Sacramento in time would be too close for comfort.

I'm going to have to miss this one as well...just not in a good enough place financially to make the trip up.

I want to note that the proposed "stop 1" is at a lot that charges a flat $10/day (and they were pretty strict about enforcement when I was there), while Folsom downtown parking is generally free. I know that not everyone is able to walk, but for those of us who can make the walk, may just be worth walking the 3 blocks from the meetup point to the bridge. Especially if we're also going to be stopping at Coloma, which may also require a $10 fee.

I had a short walk in mind for Folsom.  If it doesn't appear everyone could make the walk my thought we could make a quick drive past the bridges.  The parking by the bridges is almost never open aside from Handicap placard spots (good to note if someone has one).  This also seemed like an Ideal lot for people could drop their cars if there consolidating at the start of the Meet (nobody thus far has said they want to do this though).

Coloma isn't quite as strict from my past visits.  People stop there to use the restroom and leave quite often while traveling on 49.  I don't think we stand a chance parking below the Forest Hill Bridge on a weekend but we will at least cross it.

A question for the group is Tong Road.  I'd that is still accessible I'd like to take everyone through it departing Folsom.  The hook with Tong Road is that is an old concrete portion of the South Lincoln Highway above Clarksville.  I can't find any information regarding if that is still accessible from US 50 Exit 31.  I guess we can pull off the exit and see what happens?  I'll be testing the tour links Thursday night to make sure they are functional.

Looking forward to Sutter's Mill myself.

I wanna say it worked for me when I drove it. May be easier from east to west just in case that one gate is closed. (Also some interesting remnants on the south side of 31.)

Problem with the south side of the freeway is the Clarksville property owners.  They get super pissy about people even being on the public right of way on Old White Rock Road looking at the old Lincoln Highway Bridge.

I got a bunch of nastygrams about Clarksville sent my way in 2022 when I posted a photo on our Facebook page.  Essentially the property owners demanded I take my photo down because it encouraged trespassing (which I didn't do).  When I pointed out the property line was clearly signed the owner tried to steer me towards promoting Clarksville Days (which I wasn't inclined to promote).   Basically the property owners ended up blocking my personal account and that was the end of it.  Definitely not something I want to risk repeating live during a meet.

This is from Old White Rock Road looking east at the Lincoln Highway Bridge approaching Clarksville.  The end of the public right of way is super obvious and so is the private property signage:

Depending on what time I get out the door on Friday I might be able to check on Tong Road on my way up to Sacramento.  I'm checking off a list of old bridges in the Sierra foothills and will take me up towards the El Dorado Hills area ramps for US 50.

For reference this is what Tong Road looks like during a Lincoln Highway event.

I can scout Tong Road on Friday afternoon, being as I'll most likely be driving through there on 50.

Yeah but that view of the old little bridge plus you have the stubs on either side of White Rock. The east half is original concrete and this you can stand on. https://maps.app.goo.gl/kAgb5jxcqbuZjHCg9

cl94

The stub Alps is referencing is fine, but just east of there (before the bridge) are a bunch of "keep out" and notre spassing signs. I like my job too much to risk dealing with this stuff. Tong Road may be good per what I'm seeing.

The stub Alps pointed out is indeed public.  So much so that someone apparently had recently dumped trash there shortly before I took my photo:

I'm to understand that this Clarksville Days thing is a big local event.  That's all fine and good that the property owner doesn't want people on their land outside of that.  It still doesn't give them ownership over the road leading to their property, the history of Clarksville or the Lincoln Highway.

Had I been approached in a more courteous manner I probably would have put in an edit to add something in about no trespassing and their Clarksville Days event.  I guess sometimes it pays to not be a jerk or assume you can strong arm someone on social media.  I suppose it makes for an interesting story for this thread and probably the Meet tour (possible on Tong Road or at the Forni Bridge).

My car (holds me and up to two three passengers) has handicap plates. It has a handicap placard in my glove box, which we can use if I'm riding with someone else rather than taking my own car.

I'm overnighting in Phoenix right now, expect to arrive in California tomorrow and the Sacramento area late in the day Thursday.

I updated the original post in this thread with corrected Map Links.  I was having some trouble getting the correct tour routed on wanted on the Google App so I added a bunch of via points.  I tested said links on the phone and computer, and they are functioning properly.  I'm saving a copy of the meet tour to my email in case something happens to the forum on Meet day.

Ray Mullins who many of you know off forum might meet up with us in Newcastle.

Keep in mind that the via points don't transfer to Google Maps on phones for active navigation...but you tested them so...yay!

I'm already in California (hence early post).  Worried I might be late for the game due to rush hour traffic...I-80 eastbound was a disaster yesterday as I drove westbound...

I'm leaving my hotel in downtown Sacramento at 7 AM to make it up to Folsom.  On paper that should be a 27-30 minute drive but probably will be more like 35-40 even on a Saturday morning.  All the same the start time for getting rolling is pretty vague and flexible.

cl94

I'll have a couple of New York maps for anyone interested. I should also be able to pick up a few Nevada maps before the meet to pass out.

Is there any interest in dinner before or after the game? (or will you be eating at the park?)

I was planning on casually heading up tomorrow morning through the Sierra foothills (I have three bridges to see) and maybe going to Railroad Museum in Old Sacramento.  My wife will probably find something she'll want to try for dinner around our hotel (on Jibboom Street) before the game.  I'm not sure what everyone else is planning aside from six of us going to the game.

cl94

I may be down for Friday dinner if people are interested, as I'll be downtown anyway (but riding trains instead of seeing baseball, that can wait until the hype dies down)

I expect to make it to Sacto by mid-afternoon. I'm in Reno now will be driving around there in the morning - and want to take SR-88 over the Sierra (a 4 hour drive tops).  Hit me on FB Messenger since that's your only contact to me.  Expect a delayed response because I refuse to turn on notifications.  (I'm sure I'll be in the dead zone for some time anyway)
