"Positive" Trends You're Beginning To See

With all the negativity happening in the news, and as a flip side to the Minor Things That Bother You thread, I've decided to start a tralead on things you've noticed that are for the good.

Lately, I have seen several places in my area, ranging from Medical Offices to C-Stores, which have "single-seat" rest rooms going from Men's and Women's individual bathrooms to Unisex/Any Gender bathrooms.

It's nice common sense to see that trend happening.  If a restroom can only serve one person at a time, and said person can lock it from the inside, why not make them generic restrooms?

I'm sure you've run into the situation where you need to go and someone is taking their time in the Men's Room, or it's closed for cleaning, while the Women's room is wide open, or vice versa.  What do you do?

Of course, I believing the multi-seater/multi-stall restrooms staying the way they are.

I have never seen anyone care if a man uses the women's room or vice versa in the single seat scenario.  I had to use the women's room once at a Wawa because otherwise I may have stunk the place up (to put it nicely).  A woman saw me when I left, and had no issue once I explained that to her.

A good friend of mine who operates his own business was just saying that, since COVID, people are much more understanding of delays and supply chain disruptions.  In fact, he said, they're happy to pay part of the cost up front, because at least they know the project will move forward.

Regarding the restrooms, when I was in law school, the library had men's and ladies' rooms on the fourth floor and a men's room (two urinals, two shitters) on the second floor. Some of the women quite rightly complained about it. So the administration removed one urinal, one shitter, and the booth walls and doors from the second-floor men's room and designated it unisex. In response to questions about why they didn't just leave the interior design as it had been, they said university policy prohibited designating a restroom as unisex if more than one person could use it at the same time (and they ignored my response that having one urinal and one shitter meant two people could use it at the same time).

About a month later, a second sign appeared on the door that said something like, "Remember to lock door behind you when using this restroom." I've always wondered who it was who literally got caught with her pants down.

So, because you didn't want to stink up the men's, you stunk up the women's?

I saw someone walk into what looked like the wrong restroom. However, it had this sign next to each restroom. I had assumed it had to do with that until the person walked out and realized they had accidentally been in the wrong one. (I don't remember the gender of the person.)

I like thatcwearing a mask when you're sick has been normalized. Sometimes when I have a bad cold, I still need to go to the grocery store and don't want to get others sick. (Just for the record, once I got vaccinated for Covid, I stopped wearing masks in places where it was optional, and don't wear one when I'm feeling healthy.)

That would have definitely been a shitty situation.

At work common sense is begun to prevail over "safety theater."  The era of branding insane things as "safety issues" seems to have come to an end.  As the Safety Manager this has been something I've spent a large part of the last decade trying to fix.
