Specifically, changing all "mile markers" to "meter markers" and placing them on all highways at one meter intervals. Followed immediately by changing all US speed limits from miles per hour to meters per hour, because who doesn't want to drive 100,000?

Nah.  Convert them to meter markers, but post them every 128 meters.  That way, people will have an easier transition by just remembering that there are 25 meter markers per two-mile stretch.

Slow down to 20 mph and stare at them as you go by.  If nobody is already assisting, then come to a complete stop within your travel lane and ask them if they need any help.  After passing by, immediately accelerate to the speed limit.

Giving each one a descriptive name in the style of the names of Friends episodes (e.g., "The One with ____," "The One Where ____," etc.) to be used instead of numbers. So, for example, if your car breaks down on southbound I-95 in Virginia and you call for roadside assistance, you tell them, "I'm at the One Just South of Kings Dominion." Or on southbound I-75 near Naples, "I'm at the One with the Toll Plaza."
