Why didn't New York renumber any of its I-x78 routes after their parent 2di was cancelled?

New York remembers and renames, but does not renumber.

Didn't want to insult their parents' fast revolving 78 RPM records.

These days, it's perfectly all right for kids to move away from their parent.

The only question is how did 78's kids afford NYC rent.

They wanted to provide something for members of this forum to use as a basis for fictional maps.
"You know, you never have a guaranteed spot until you have a spot guaranteed."
—Olaf Kolzig, as quoted in the Washington Times on March 28, 2003,
commenting on the Capitals clinching a playoff spot.

"That sounded stupid, didn't it?"
—Kolzig, to the same reporter a few seconds later.

Because NYSDOT doesn't believe in cancel culture. So what if I-78 was "problematic" and "runs on a random street with stoplights"?

Losing the palindrome freeway would be a severe blow to their interstate repertoire.

Return all states to the old federal limit of 55 except for Rhode Island, which takes Texas's 85mph speed limit. This will increase tourism revenue for the city of Quahog.

All states, Warp Factor 9. Make it so.

hotdogPi

Massachusetts should reduce their maximum speed limit from 65 to 64, since 64 is a power of 2 and the state needs to advertise how important they are in technology since they seem to have been losing it to other states the last few decades.

Illinois should increase speed limits to 85 MPH because it's flat and can handle those speeds.

I don't care what their damn speed limits are, as long as they don't enforce them.

Are you in Australia? It's only the 17th here. :)

Queensland should probably reduce their speeds to 40 kph because of all the cane toads.
Tasmania should probably raise their speeds to 150 kph to avoid the Tasmanian Devil.

Virginia should increase the limit to 85 mph so that I-366 can be designated.

New York should lower the limit to 50 mph to be uniform with NYC.

You don't want NYC to remain an outlier?

States that are posted at 75mph should reduce their speed limits to 120km/h.

The reason why is left as an exercise for the reader.

I'm all for a modern-day split NMSL of 75 for states east of the Mississippi, and 85 for those west of it. It only seems fair.

Hmmm... good point.  On second thought, New York should lower its speed limit to 45 except in cities with a population greater than one million.  If it's good enough for the BQE, it's good enough for the Thruway!

Why did they decide to extend I-74 wildly out of grid to South Carolina?
