Since both stoplights are going to SB Meridian St., does that mean I-67 is still possible
Of course. See I-39 at I-90/94 near Portage, WI.

I accept and respect your identity as long as it's not dumb shit like "identifying as a vaccinated attack helicopter".

It's already showing up on Google Maps. That's the fastest I've seen that happen.

Maybe a bit too quick, as they're now delaying the opening due to an "equipment malfunction", whatever that means.

So now the new BGS has been installed on 465 East, it shows that the new freeway is no longer signed as Meridian St (not surprising).  Unfortunately it incorrectly states the exit as 33 when it's really 31, it also has a Keystone Ave sign incorrectly stated as exit 31 when it's really 33.  I hope they fix that, how do you mess that up!?

tdindy88

Are there any control cities on the sign for US 31 north?

I believe it was just kokomo I'll look on my way home from work to confirm this evening.  Google maps also shows incorrectly the SPUI at SR 32.  It's right that that is what it will look like, but it's wrong because it doesn't exist yet!

dfwmapper

The project page says the SPUI at SR 32 was supposed to be active once the traffic shift on the 17th was completed.

Really? Only half of 31 is complete through there. Maybe half of the interchange is open. I'll have to drive up and investigate.

silverback1065

So no lights from 116th to 196th now!

Actually it does exist -- the new SPUI is fully open and functional since Saturday.  Both Northbound and Southbound traffic is sharing the southbound lanes at this time.

O great I guess I misread the headline. That's great news traffic will still be awful until it's done but its nice to see no more lights on that stretch.

silverback1065

Was Westfield Blvd was supposed to be extended south to connect to 151st st?  I saw it on Google maps as a proposed extension, but it's since disappeared.

Still planned for 2015 by city of Westfield.  Some Google editor arbitrarily removed it.

I've added all the Hamilton County US 31 construction activity to Google Maps for the last several years, including the new SPUI at SR 32.

You can see the details for the current configuration and new SPUI here

Actually traffic is moving quite well other than the stretch between 116th and I 465.  The only thing to watch out for is that the construction speed limits are being aggressively enforced by Carmel, Westfield, and Indiana state police.  As long as you keep your speed to a reasonable level you should have no issues.

Those cops just love "keeping us safe" with tickets. Are there any plans to decommission SR 32?  INDOT seems to always do this when State roads turn urban.

tdindy88

I've heard of none. But they could always decommission the highway from say US 31 over to SR 37. Not that we should give them any ideas.

I do hope the control city for 31 is only Kokomo. The original sign plans had Kokomo and Westfield, skipping both South Bend and the 5th largest city in the state Carmel. Kokomo will do just fine. I had seen that the sign plans for the SR 32 exit (I'm pretty sure this sign isn't up yet) had Lebanon and Noblesville listed, skipping Westfield altogether, and this will be the primary Westfield exit. To my knowledge I saw no signage for Carmel or Westfield in any of the plans other than the Westfield mention at I-465.

Going on a short tangent from here, I brought up an idea one time to a family member who lives in Westfield that they should add some sort of decoration on the 146th Street overpass. For northbound traffic on US 31, it should saw Westfield in green with a shamrock and for southbound traffic on 31, it should say Carmel in blue and yellow with a greyhound. Just something I'd like to see personally as I drove underneath SR 39 in Lebanon not too long ago and saw something decoration on that bridge for Lebanon. Okay, I'm done.

From one of the local news stories it was stated that everybody that was ticketed on one of the enforcement days was going at least 15 mph over the posted limit.  So I don't think they are going after those just a few mph over.   Considering that this is still a construction area with restricted lanes it isn't an unreasonable thing to be doing.

Anyone know why sr 32 wasn't a teardrop roundabout interchange?

tdindy88

Probably something to do with the words "State Road." Seriously, all the teardrop roundabout interchanges that have been built in Indiana have been with "local" roads. That will change with the I-69/SR 445 interchange in Greene County however.

I thought that was a trumpet did they change it?

The control cities are Westfield and kokomo. I think it should be south bend and kokomo.

tdindy88

Carmel = 85,000 people, Westfield = 30,000 people. Westfield is obviously more important. Or better yet, your idea, Kokomo and South Bend.

Wow I didn't know Carmel was that big. I think indot thinks keystone is the Carmel exit it has a small sign for that exit. Westfield shouldn't be on the sign at all. Maybe its there because of grand park? Who makes these decisions anyway?

monty

When you turn north on US 31 from 465, you are technically in Carmel I believe, so maybe that's why the next significant destination city is Westfield.
