111th overpass has been open since Sunday, so the smart traffic will avoid College and use 111th or Carmel Drive to get to Illinois Street on the other side of US 31 and/or use US 31 to exit at Old Meridian.

So according to the carmel paper, there is a temporary signal at 111th and college.  I think the only reason why that intersection isn't a roundabout is because that intersection isn't in carmel.

Went through there on Saturday afternoon.  There are no turn lanes at this intersection, so the traffic signal is green for only one of the four directions at a time.

I went there too, it's just a crappy 4way stop signal, I'm sure it will be a roundabout whenever Carmel feels like gobbling up home place.

The Ghostbuster

I think US 31 should be completely freeway from Indianapolis to South Bend. It probably will be eventually.

That's the plan, money is the only thing holding indot back.

The Ghostbuster

There's never enough money to do what needs to be done. Roads are no exception.

I'll repeat what I've said before: Yes, it would be nice if the remaining parts of US 31 were made freeway, but expanding I-65 and I-70 to six lanes will do more for improving travel times and safety than converting the rural parts of 31.
Indiana: counties 100%, highways 100%
Illinois: counties 100%, highways 61%
Michigan: counties 100%, highways 56%
Wisconsin: counties 86%, highways 23%

I would consider two factors on US 31. I would bet there a pretty high number of fatalities is per capita on it. Secondly, although travel is much faster than even two years ago, it has the lowest average speed limit of all the spokes coming out from Indy.

I think the best compromise would be to make US 31 a freeway to Kokomo and then get rid of the last four stoplights in Miami County. If they could make the freeway portions 70 MPH and the rest 65 MPH, that would probably be good enough.

I absolutely agree that I-65 and I-70 need widening, but that could be done incrementally. I-65 needs widening thru the state, but probably most from Merrillville to Lowell, Franklin to Columbus, and from SR 160 south to Memphis. I-70 east of US 231 could stand to be six lanes, but SR 39 to SR 267 and Mt. Comfort Road to SR 9 would be the most important sections. West of US 231 is less busy.

In all honesty, I-69 from Pendleton to Daleville (assuming the SR 37 to to Pendleton widening is done), Jefferson to I-469, and Auburn to SR 1 urgently need widening as well.

I'm not sure about which thread this should go under, but I was able to view the signage plans for the new US 31 and SR 28 interchange in Tipton County and saw that that exit will be Exit 148.

You could also add the proposal to make US 231 at least a divided highway throughout the entire state, like it is south of I-64.  But I feel this is the lowest of low priority

The new EB 465 - SB Meridian ramp is opening this evening.  It will also serve as the ramp to NB US 31 until the flyover is complete.  This will permanently remove the old EB 465 to Meridian / 31 ramp on the south side of the interchange.  I suspect this means that the paving is done in the southbound US 31 lanes and they will be opening once they re-pave where the old ramp crossed the southbound lanes.  They were getting close when I went through last Saturday.

Google Maps still shows the old ramp.  Could one of you with the appropriate powers please submit an update before my OCD kicks in?  :bigass:
Even friggin Apple Maps has it right (although they also show the flyover that isn't open yet).

silverback1065

i believe tdindy88 is the Google MapMaker guru here.

No, I'm afraid I'm not. I know absolutely nothing about Google MapMaker. And if you want to talk about OCD, Apple Maps has not updated the new flyover ramp from WB I-465 to SB I-65 which has been opened for something like A YEAR.

You'd think they'd wonder why cars are driving way off the road all the time

Working on it. cjw2001 and I are both active on MM, though he's the one who's local to Indy.

Yes I went to mark it open this morning and dfwmapper had already done it.   Would have done it sooner but was out of town on business all week and super busy.  The edit is pending google approval which should likely happen tonight.

cjw2001

The new ramp was approved in mapmaker and should show up on maps sometime later today once the data replicates over.  The old ramp was also removed.

I can confirm, the ramp is added:

We're talking about the EB I-465 to US-31 ramp on the north side.  Looks to still be propagating through the internets:

TravelingBethelite

My bad. I was mistaken, as I thought you meant the ramp that turns out it was actually missing on Apple, not Google, Maps.

It is changed in mapmaker but it is taking longer than usual to propagate out to maps.  Should show up eventually.
