Since the west end of SR 52 is at I-5, why would one expect signs for SR 52 west at the La Jolla Village Drive exit?

the END 52 sign is posted about a half-mile past the end of I-5.  In any case, whatever that road is that leads into La Jolla (call it 52 or don't) should have a ramp from southbound I-5.

Yes, if only so I don't have to deal with tons of bumbling out-of-towners and college kids having no idea what lane to be in at the intersection of La Jolla Village Dr and Torrey Pines. Heading westbound, it doesn't help that there's barely any indication that you need to take a left there to get to La Jolla, you can't see the intersection until you're basically there, and there's another intersection just a few hundred feet beforehand.

Such a ramp would be a pretty serious undertaking, though, given how far up 52/whatever is above I-5 on the west side, and how acute the angle is between 5 south and 52/whatever west. (the "whatever" is La Jolla Pkwy, and used to be Ardath Rd.)

they could probably bring the ramp down starting as far north as the end of Gilman Court.

really? it used to be called Ardath Road?  and they named it to Yet Another La Jolla XYZ Road instead??  wow.  is La Jolla intentionally trying to confuse the shit out of everyone?

La Jolla Pkwy, La Jolla Blvd, La Jolla Scenic Drive, La Jolla Shores Drive, La Jolla Village Drive?  Assholes!

Yeah, La Jolla Pkwy used to be Ardath Road, and there's a remnant frontage road south of La Jolla Pkwy with that name still. One of the cross streets at 52 (Genesee or Regents) has old signs pointing the way to 52 west, and there's greenout that probably covers "Ardath Rd".

You forgot La Jolla Mesa Dr, La Jolla Farms Dr, Villa La Jolla Dr (which intersects La Jolla Village Drive and means the same thing in Spanish), La Jolla Colony Dr, and La Jolla Rancho Rd. And undoubtedly others. When I moved here, I was very confused. As was UPS back in Rhode Island, who didn't believe me that there are streets around that don't end in St, Rd, Dr, Blvd, or whatever. I'm still not sure how to abbreviate Caminito and Camino here.

that sums up what is wrong with San Diego planning.

also, the one sign on 56 westbound that lists Carmel Mountain, Carmel Valley, and Carmel Creek roads as the next 3 exits.  Ouch!

Certainly more opportunities for San Diegans to catch and ridicule tourists who don't know the Spanish pronunciation of "La Jolla."

That and all the people who cut across the entire road during rush hour because they have to make a left on La Jolla Scenic Drive, and the people who don't realize that the right lane forces you to turn into the university (I used to live off that turnoff, so I have to move out of that lane every time since I never want to go in that entrance and I do it out of habit).

I added pictures of the SR 52 extension in Santee at the AARoads California 52 page:

https://www.aaroads.com/california/ca-052.html

Included are pictures from the grand opening event and a week or so after the road opened to traffic.

I agree with Oscar ... most who attended were Santee residents who wanted to walk on the freeway, sample all the free food, and get free t-shirts. Having attended two grand openings of segments of SR 210, the food and t-shirts were definitely not free! I guess that got folded into the overhead of the project. Not a whole lot of road people, near as I could tell.

Andy

Yeah, lots of kids, people of the general public. Lots of cops to keep people in line. Lots of municipal leaders to impress people.
