The ramp from Sbd I-55 to IL-129 (Exit 238) closed yesterday, permanently.  IDOT wants to rebuild the interchange completely.  Got a couple of photos on the 30th.

Get your pics while it still stands.

Goodbye U-turn?

As far as I can see, it was open, but I'll probably pass by there to check sometime soon.

The ramp from SB I-55 to IL 129 and the U-Turn ramp were closed.  Traffic is sent south to IL 113 then Coal City Rd to rejoin IL 129.  A traffic signal was installed on IL 113 at the ramp from SB I-55.

Which is funny since Lorenzo Rd (Exit 240) was just redone only 8 years ago.

If I understand correctly, the current plan at Lorenzo is to augment the redone interchange with some extra ramps, not to completely tear down and rebuild.  This is to accommodate the increased truck movements expected to come out of the proposed RidgePort intermodal center southwest of the Lorenzo Road interchange.

That makes sense.  Except, last I saw, it's not intermodal, but the auto yard that is currently at the Logistics Park Chicago over in Elwood that is moving to there.  They'll have to do some reconfiguration to add ramps there as the diamond is a bit tight for adding ramps.
