The Brewers (91-58 as of this typing)  are the first team to clinch a playoff spot in 2025.  They defeated the Cardinals this evening 9-8 in 10 innings in Milwaukee.

Just hit me there is a very good chance there won't be any 100 win teams this year.

At this point, the Phillies (89-61) can't lose more than one more game, and the Brewers (91-59) need to be 9-3 or better. Stranger things have happened...
Go Cubs Go! Go Cubs Go! Hey Chicago, what do you say? The Cubs are gonna win today!

With heir win tonight (3-2 in 10 innings) at St. Louis and the Cubs' loss earlier today, the Brewers' 'Magic Number' to win the NL Central is now 1.

Looks like the Brewers need to win their last five games to get to 100. The Phillies have 65 losses, so they can't hit the century mark.

On the other side of things, the Rockies (43-113) should be thankful that they won't eclipse the 121 losses set by last year's White Sox squad.

Brewers only have four left, so they can't get to 100 wins.

Also no relegation (yet).

Taking it back, so there'll be no 100-win teams this year. The White Sox still suck, with another 100-loss season, but at least they're a far improved version of the historically bad team that lost 121 last year.

Nope there won't be any 100 win teams this season, every team has 63 or more losses.

The Mariners have won the AL West for the first time since 2001, ending Houston's run of 7 straight division titles in 161+ game seasons.

The Colorado Rockies have become just the third team to allow 1,000+ runs in a season since it expanded to 162 games. The other two are the 1996 Tigers (1,103) and the 1999 Rockies (1,028). They're currently at 1,007 runs allowed with 3 games to play, meaning they've allowed an average of 6.33 runs per game.

The Rockies hold 6 of the top 13 spots on this list, which makes sense given their relative lack of success and their ballpark.

While the Astros' playoff hopes for this season hang on by a fingernail. Basically, they have to win out, and the Guardians and/or the Tigers have to lose at least two of their last three games. Both teams have tie-breakers over the Astros, so it's not enough to tie either the Guardians or Tigers for the final AL wild card.

At least my other home team, the Padres, are locked into an NL wild card, even though they slumped enough to lose the NL West to the Dodgers.

This weekend promises a fast and furious finish for both the AL Central and wild-card races. Not only are the Tigers and Guardians competing for a division title, they also have to contend with the Red Sox and Astros for the final wild-card spots. The same can be said for the NL wild-card race, with the Mets, Diamondbacks and Reds in the mix.

Wow, and on the day that the Tigers clinch the playoffs as well.

The Sox can take the day off and maybe get the central division winner instead of the Yanks/Jays.

Tigers get the 5th seed with a win or the division with a Gards loss.

Appears the Tigers are not starting Skubal today after the clinch.

Gee ... we know which series will get TV coverage priority ...

Cleveland with the biggest comeback in MLB history to win the division outright after trailing by 15.5 games. The previous record was 14 games. And since they actually won it outright with a 1 game lead it was a 16.5 game swing.

Now the Guardians get to host the team they tracked down in the Wild Card round.

One of the wild-card series have my hometown team going up against (and playing host to) my wife's own...well, you know who they are.

I would have to go with the Padres/Cubs series.  It'll be on ABC with full nationwide coverage, while the others, including the Almighty Red Sox and Yankees, will be on ESPN with not as many homes as it used to have, even with a 3 PM Eastern first pitch.

Yankees / Red Sox will draw a bigger number than Cubs / Padres. Broadcast TV isn't much of an audience builder in the middle of a weekday.
