I-74/I-155 interchange to be redone

I can see improving the ramp radii at this interchange, not sure about the need to raise I-155 so it goes over I-74.  I-74 appears to have been elevated here due to a former rail line east of I-155, and doesn't appear all that steep from GSV.

Also from the graphic with the article, it appears the exit loop from EB I-74 to NB Morton Avenue is also being removed.

Morton Avenue will receive new exit ramps and a lighted intersection.

Shouldn't that read a new signalized intersection. No new ramps, removal of one and relocation of the others. Crappy improvement IMO...

The tunnels at Jefferson Street in Morton will be replaced with traditional overpass structures; other overpasses that accommodate an abandoned rail line will be removed.

I don't see why they would need to do that. It would be better off if they just raise I-74 the few feet that's needed.

Agreed.  I've seen the plans over at the IDOT website.  Also, a freeway or expressway could be finished along IL-29 to I-180.  Either one of these would be a better expenditure than this.

And there was I thinking that it was only in Britain that we replace freeflow turns with at-grade ones
I could understand removing one of the loops if the weaving section was on the freeway but it's not.

Brandon I mentioned 336 because IDOT got the ROD and has done some Phase 2 engineering right in that congested area near Peoria. EPA has some reservations about 29 I dont know what but there seems to be nothing underway on that one I would be interested in finding out what the problem is.
My math tells me that 85 million could build 8 miles of 336 or 29 right now.
Champaign got IDOT to switch some money from a 6 lane of 74 to something more worthwhile. We need some Peorians to start making a stink. If they dont get their roads its their fault because this 85 million is a waste.
I am sure going to remind them if they(IDIOT) claims they cant come up with the 14 million to fix 67
