Been a road geek since the sixties when I would be the navigator on the family vacations.  In school, I would doodle rockets and highway signage.  Now that my own family has grown, I am getting back out on the roads again.  My wife and I like to travel the roads in Northern IL and IN.  I always prefer a state/county route over the interstate simply because there are more of them to explore and it is more interesting following the route over various roads.  I also combine this with benchmarking http://www.geocaching.com/mark/default.aspx
