A 26-mile expressway segment of US 20 between US 71 and IA 4 opened yesterday, but the official dedication ceremony will be tomorrow morning.

Expanding the remaining 44 miles from Early to Moville, however, is expected to cost $275 million -- or up to $8.5 million per mile.

Another story: New four lane section of Highway 20 opens (KCCI-TV, Des Moines, with video)

Judging by the signage in the video:

  • One for the "exit number = highway number" thread: the new interchange with US 71 is Exit 71.
  • IA 196 has been extended to meet US 20 at a new interchange northeast of Sac City, with County Road N14 continuing northward. I couldn't make out the exit number, though.
  • The US 20 shields are mounted on two poles, a la Minnesota.
