1. Has I-69 signage been added to I-55/240/40 in Memphis? Any Photos?

2. Anymore news on the addition of I-69 along the parkways in Kentucky?

Thanks,

Stephen

Edit: Just merged the two topics since they deal with the same stretch of roadway :) -florida

I drove the Brethett/Penneyrile Parkway section of future I-69 in Kentucky back in late November.   As of that time the only referencees to I-69 were a few of the larger green "I-69 Corridor" signs.  There were not cutouts or trailblazers posted anywhere.

Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone has photographed any of the signage addition of I-69 through Memphis. I know that is was extended along I-55, I-240 and I-40 to TN-300 on the North side of town. I have read about it being added but I have not seen anything official except from Mississippi near Hernando. Could you post the photos or could you send them to me if possible.

Thanks and Take Care,

Stephen

I'd like to see that too, if anyone has it!

we'd definitely like some I-69 from Tennessee... we have Mississippi coverage now, as can be seen here:

www.aaroads.com/shields/thumbs.php?state=MS&search=69

and if anyone finds a state-named Tenn I-69 shield, that would be the best thing of all... or any other number, because as far as anyone knows, there are zero state-named shields left in Tennessee.

There used to be a couple of them at I-40's Exit 407 (I think), whatever the exit number is for TN 66 to Sevierville, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. They were located on the north side of the interchange, on the county road that leads up to US 25W/US 70, as you approach the interchange heading south.

When I saw them I did not have the opportunity to take a photo, and that was several years ago. so they may or may not be still standing. If anyone's going to Gatlinburg or the Tennessee Smokies region, hop off at the TN 66 exit and go to the north side of the interchange and see if they are there. There were two, standing side-by-side, the typical "East turns right, West goes straight" advance shields you usually see at an interstate exit.

Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

I personally would love to see shots of the I-69 signage in the Memphis area.  I want to make sure I made the TN I-69 correct.  I mostly made it on info in an e-mail I got from TDOT.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is no I-69 signage in Tennessee.

I was there in January and there was no mention of I-69 until you entered Mississippi.

There is a Future I-69 Corridor sign on I-40 West just south of TN 300, but other than that, there was no other mention of I-69 when I went through Memphis in July.

Here's Interstate 69 between S.R. 304 and Old S.R. 304, west of Hernando and northeast of Tunica.

I grew up along I-69 in Indiana. That's crazy seeing it signed in Mississippi. I knew they were expanding it all the way to Mexico; I had no clue segments were actually open. Thanks for the pics!

I really don't think I-69 should be signed at all in the south until the corridor is 90% finished. I mean those "future corridor" signs could be there for many years if not decades. There are future I-69 corridor signs in the Houston,TX area. Maybe construction is coming along faster than I expected it, but is the new I-69 really that close to being a reality? Especially since many of the existing interstates need to be fixed if not completely redone. The most laughable thing about 69 is it took Michigan many years to complete the interstate in the state. I remember as a kid seeing all those Temporary 69 signs along I-96 in the Lansing area and I-69 was not wholly completed until I became an adult- The Potterville and Lansing to Port Huron sections. I'm glad I-69 is coming along down there but I think it is premature for Mississippi to sign 69 with 55. I wonder how long the future I-73/I-74 signage is going to stay posted in North Carolina.

The current south end of I-69 in Mississippi is an at-grade intersection which I thought was strange.

Arkansas has "future corridor" signs along US 65, but no telling how long they will be there.

Have you ever seen an future I-49 corridor sign in Arkansas?  I have not.

Now that you mention it, no, I haven't.

Wow, I hadn't been here in a while. Anyhow, has it been determined where I-69 will exit Mississippi into Arkansas? I've gathered information in the past that it would pass a little north of Greenville, while another path takes it closer to Clarksdale.

froggie

That part's been decided for years (close to a decade now).  If it ever gets built, it'll cross the river on the "Great River Bridge", to be located at Eutaw Landing (west of Benoit, MS and just a little northeast of Arkansas City, AR).

leifvanderwall

So I-69 will gobble a part of US 61, eh? The Great River Bridge was decided almost 10 years ago? hmmm... perhaps there's a funding problem.

Although mile markers instead of signage, seemed like a good idea to 'revive" this thread.  Due to efforts of one individual, there should soon be mile markers on short section of MS I-69 (DeSoto Times: Sept. 25, 2010):

http://www.desototimes.com/articles/2010/09/25/news/doc4c9d51959e89c689788410.txt

"It took four years and the concern of a constituent but mile-markers along the completed portion of Interstate 69 from U.S. Highway 61 in Tunica to Interstate 55 in Hernando will soon be installed.

That section of Interstate 69 opened with great fanfare in 2006, but since that time there have been no mile-markers along the way to gauge distance or alert authorities if there was an emergency.

Mort Abramson, a retired DeSoto County Sheriff's Department employee, waged more or less a one-man campaign to get mile-markers posted along the heavily traveled route between Memphis and the casinos in Tunica and other points south ....

"I hadn't really thought about it until Mr. Mort Abramson brought it to my attention," Davis said. "I've driven it many times but I just never paid attention to the fact they didn't have them. It's definitely a safety issue."

Davis contacted MDOT officials, who in turn, got the ball rolling.

"When I talked with MDOT, they said it's their intention of putting them up," Davis said.

District 3 Transportation Commissioner Bill Minor assured Davis the mile-markers would be installed soon."

Is Mort a member of this group?  Whether he is or not, I nominate him for Roadgeek of the Year: best practical application of roadgeek interest to solving a current, "real world" issue with a major highway.

EDIT - QUESTION

Be honest.  Assuming Mort not a member of this forum, had anyone else in this forum noticed absence of I-69 mile markers in Mississippi?
