County Road 72/74 - Howells Ferry Road
Mobile County Route 72 lines Howells Ferry Road east from a boat ramp on Big Creek Lake to suburban areas of Semmes and U.S. 98 (Moffett Road) in northwest Mobile. Similar to Tanner Williams Road, Howells Ferry Road was also partitioned with the creation of the man-made reservoir. The rural western section of Howells Ferry Road spurs east from CR 5 as a local road to Big Creek Lake and west from CR 5 as Mobile County Route 74 to the Mississippi state line.

Howells Ferry Road east meets CR 31 (Schillinger Road) in incorporated Mobile County south of Semmes.

CR 31 travels north to U.S. 98 (Moffett Road) and SR 217 (Lott Road) and south to Airport Boulevard and Cottage Hill Road (CR 40) through West Mobile.

18 inch pentagons were added along CR 72 (Howells Ferry Road) at CR 31 (Schillinger Road) in mid 2009.

Schillinger Road constitutes a five lane boulevard north to U.S. 98 and SR 217 (Lott Road) at Semmes and south along a heavily commercialized strip to Airport Boulevard in West Mobile.

Continuing beyond CR 31, CR 72 (Howells Ferry Road) bends northwest by a number of residential subdivisions and mobile home parks. This is the only westbound reassurance shield posted.
