Escambia County Road 749 - Old Chemstrand Road

County Road 749 remains in use along 2.25 miles of Old Chemstrand Road, between County Road 95A (Old Palafox Highway) to Chemstrand Road in the Gonzalez area of Escambia County. The route carries traffic between U.S. 29 and the Ascend Performance Materials chemical plant off the Escambia River.
CR 749 used to turn south along Chemstrand Road, 3.95 miles to U.S. 90 Alternate (Nine Mile Road). That section was dropped after 2010. Historically the Old Chemstrand Road portion of CR 749 was a part of State Secondary 297 and the Chemstrand Road section was State Secondary 292. Escambia County 749 was designated over these stretches by 1981.

Old Chemstrand Road begins from U.S. 29 and quickly intersects County Road 95A (Old Palafox Highway). This short segment is not officially a part of CR 749.
