State Road 22 links Springfield, Callaway and the Panama City area with Gulf County and State Road 71 in the city of Wewahitchka. The route totals 25.8 miles along a mostly rural course comprised of tree stands and wetland areas.

SR 22 leaves the intersection with U.S. 98 (Tyndall Parkway) and reduces to two overall lanes.
