The first shield and distance sign for SR 89 north pictured when Dogwood drive was only three lanes wide. Widening of the highway to four lanes with a grassy median occurred in the early 2000s.

SR 89 passes by Six Flags Shopping Center as it begins from U.S. 90 (Caroline Street) in Milton. A new shield assembly was installed after the four-laning was completed.

A replacement distance sign incorrectly subtracted the distance to Jay from 27 to 21 miles. The sign was replaced again after 2006 to add N.A.S. to Whiting Field.

Hamilton Bridge Road splits from Berryhill Road east of SR 89 and intersects Dogwood Drive at a traffic light. The former county road continues west to Spencer Field OLF and a number of subdivisions outside the Milton city limits.

CR-182 stretches 10.92 miles across the county between CR-197 at Chumuckla and State Road 87.
