State Road 690 - Gateway Expressway

Toll Florida State Road 690

Part of the Gateway Expressway, State Road 690 is an elevated toll road extending west from the exchange joining I-275 with SR 686 (Roosevelt Boulevard) in St. Peterburg to U.S. 19 between the cities of Largo and Pinellas Park. The four lane expressway runs along the median of 118th Avenue N (CR 296) west to flyovers with the limited access section of U.S. 19. The SR 686A section of the Gateway Expressway branches north from SR 690 above 40th Street N. SR 686A connects with SR 686/688 at Ulmerton Road and overlays Roosevelt Boulevard to St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport (PIE) and CR 611 (49th Street N) at the south end of the Bayside Bridge.

Work for the Gateway Expressway commenced on August 21, 2017. The project included the addition of the tolled Express Lanes along Interstate 275 from south of SR 694 (Gandy Boulevard) to SR 687 (4th Street N) by the Howard Frankland Bridge. Together with the branches along SR 686A and SR 690, the project through early 2023 early Spring 2024 cost $594.7 million.1 The Gateway Expressway system opened collectively on April 26, 2024.
