Costing $4.6 million, the bridge connects a two mile section of the Trans-Florida Central Rail Trail between North County Regional Park and the Fellsmere Trailhead Preserve. Work on the overpass ran from April 2017 to July 2018.5

Jacksonville replaces Daytona Beach as the main control city for the freeway northbound. 51.76 million in construction expanded 12.44 miles of I-95 from the Indian River County line to Malabar Road by Spring 2014. Included was the replacement of bridges over C-54 Canal and Fellsmere Canal.6

Curving northward ahead of the Micco Road overpass, I-95 advances two miles to an extension of St. Johns Heritage Parkway. Historically referred to as Palm Bay Parkway, the first segment of the arterial beltway north to Melbourne was completed in the city of Palm Bay between Malabar Road and an extension of Emerson Drive.

The DDI at Exit 166 with a 1.67 mile segment of St. Johns Heritage Parkway SE remained closed to traffic until on August 11, 2020. Delays due to gopher tortoise removal, weather and design changes pushed completion of the adjacent $9.9 million parkway section funded by the city of Palm Bay. Began in May 2018, construction was scheduled for completion on June 19, 2019 and subsequently pushed back to December 2, 2019.8
