Interstate 520 West

Entering Augusta-Richmond County, Exit 16 departs I-520 from the west end of the Savannah River bridge. Richmond County and the city of Augusta consolidated in 1995 as a single government body.

SR 28 is part of a multi state route stretching 238 miles between nearby Beach Island, South Carolina and Deals Gap, North Carolina. Laney Walker Boulevard branches 3.83 miles west from SR 28 to R.A. Dent Boulevard.

Widening of Bobby Jones Expressway in 2011-13 reconfigured both Exit 5 and 3 to eliminate the loop ramps from I-520. Exit 5B was consolidated to Exit 5, serving both directions of U.S. 1. U.S. 1/SR 540 (Fall Line Freeway) link the Augusta area with Wrens, 25 miles to the west in Jefferson County.
