Route 2 North - Glen Burnie to Baltimore

MD 2 constitutes six overall lanes on the Ritchie Highway through north Glen Burnie. Pictured here is the traffic light with Orchard Road just south of the Interstate 895 Spur northbound beginning. Orchard Road from the right and Shelly Road from the left intersect MD 2 0.3 miles north of MD 710 (Ordnance Road).

Interstate 895 Spur northbound directs motorists from MD 2 (Ritchie Highway) northbound onto both Interstate 695 west / inner and Interstate 895 north (Harbor Tunnel Thruway). The spur provides a direct freeway link to the tolled Harbor Tunnel south of downtown Baltimore as well as a connection to Interstate 97 south by way of Interstate 695 west.

MD 2 (Governor Ritchie Highway) northbound approaches the northern terminus of MD 170 (Belle Grove Road) and the Baltimore city line. The state highway meets MD 170 at the five point intersection with Jack Street, Hanover Street, and Potee Street. MD 2 continues northward along the four lane divided Potee Street from MD 170 to Hanover Street near Interstate 895 (Exit 13).

Potee Street begins at the traffic light and carries MD 2 north one block west of Hanover Street to the interchange with Interstate 895. Hanover Street in conjunction with Patapsco Avenue (unsigned MD 173) serve the Brooklyn community of south Baltimore to the east. 1st Avenue links MD 2 with MD 170 to the left.

MD 2 follows Light Street along the Inner Harbor between Key Highway and Pratt Street at downtown. The state route splits into a one way street couplet using Calvert Street (north) and St. Paul Street (south) through the central business district. Pratt Street flows east along the Inner Harbor to President Street and Little Italy. Lombard Street provides the route in the opposite direction to Interstate 395 (via Howard Street) and MD 295 (Greene Street) south.

MD 2, pretty much unsigned north of downtown, meets Monument Street at Centerstage theater. Monument Street ends one block to the east at Guilford Avenue because of Interstate 83 and becomes Mount Vernon Place west of MD 2 south (St. Paul Street).

Madison Street flows west from Johns Hopkins Hospital under Interstate 83 to intersect MD 2 (Calvert Street) north at this set of traffic lights. madison Street continues to the MD 129 turn from Paca Street onto McCulloh Street to the west.

MD 2 (Calvert Street) north enters the Mount Vernon Historic District north of Madison Street. Read Street constitutes a residential street east to Guilford Avenue and northwest to Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard at Howard Street.

Eager Street stems east from Cathedral Street in Mount Vernon to Collington Square. The street splits with an unmarked on-ramp to Interstate 83 south immediately east of MD 2 (Calvert Street).

Chase Street carries two-way street east across Interstate 83 and west to Maryland Avenue at the University of Baltimore from MD 2 north.

A set of MD 2 shields resides at the Calvert Street northbound intersection with Preston Street. Preston Street becomes Dolphin Street westbound at Howard Street and Bolton Hill.

The Fallsway turns west at Guilford Avenue and becomes Mt. Royal Avenue at Guilford Avenue, above Interstate 83 (Jones Falls Expressway). Mt. Royal Avenue continues west and shadows the freeway to U.S. 1 (North Avenue) at Exit 6 of the freeway.

MD 2 (Calvert Street) crosses over the Jones Falls Expressway and then intersects the southern terminus of MD 25 (Lanvale Street).

MD 25 north follows Lafayette Street west from MD 2 (Calvert Street) to the merge with Lanvale Street at Falls Road (west of Maryland Avenue). The state route travels 26.89 miles to Armacost in rural north Baltimore County.

MD 2 ends at the intersection with U.S. 1 (North Avenue). U.S. 1 travels east-west on North Avenue between Monroe Street/Fulton Avenue near Penn-North to Bel Air Road. Calvert Street continues north to Charles Village, east of John Hopkins University.
