MD 781 (Delancy Road) links U.S. 40 (Pulaski Highway) with MD 281 (Red Hill Road) through eastern reaches of Elkton. The 1.01 mile long suburban route provides a short cut for commuters between Old Baltimore Pike in New Castle County, Delaware and U.S. 40.

DelDOT recorded 12,909 vehicles per day (vpd) counts in 2017 along Old Baltimore Pike east of Red Hill Road and the Maryland state line. Motorists entering Maryland along Old Baltimore Pike favor Delancy Road over MD 281. MDOT traffic counts along MD 781 were 12,650 vpd in 2017 and 6,380 vpd along MD 281 west of Delancy Road.

Maryland Route 781 North
The first northbound MD 781 shield stands along Delancy Road just beyond U.S. 40 (Pulaski Highway). Development through the mid and late 2000s enveloped the intersection with the inclusion of a car dealership, gas station and single family homes. The area previously was home to corn fields and open space. 07/24/04
MD 781 (Delancy Road) ends at MD 281 (Red Hill Road) 1.8 miles east of Downtown Elkton. The majority of traffic here turns eastbound onto Red Hill Road for the 0.34 mile drive to Old Baltimore Pike into Delaware. 12/21/01
Maryland Route 781 South
Delancy Road stems south from MD 281 (Red Hill Road) through a wooded area alongside Grays Hill. Pictured here was the first confirming marker for MD 781. The U.S. 40 trailblazer was subsequently moved southward by 2007. 10/13/04
The MD 781 shield posted south of MD 281 was removed by 2012. The U.S. 40 trailblazer however remains. 05/21/07
MD 781 (Delancy Road) leads south between the Buckhill Farms and Chapel Run subdivisions to U.S. 40 (Pulaski Highway) at Bakers Lane. 04/24/04
Rapid commercial development took place along U.S. 40 (Pulaski Highway) at MD 781 (Delancy Road) between 2004 and 2007. A new business park and big box retail were added along Bakers Lane to the south. 05/21/07
