A multi state highway New Jersey Route 179 extends PA 179, 7.46 miles northeast from Lambertville to U.S. 202/Route 31 and CR 514 in East Amwell township. The two-lane route follows the pre-freeway alignment of U.S. 202 through Hunterdon County.

New Jersey 29 north & 179 south along their two-block overlap on Bridge Street in Lambertville. Route 29 turns onto Main Street toward Delaware township and the borough of Stockton while Route 179 remains on Bridge Street west to the Delaware River crossing. 10/03/04

New Jersey Route 179 South
Route 179 takes Bridge Street west to the Delaware River crossing. A 1904-built steel-truss bridge carries the state highway west to New Hope, Pennsylvania. 10/03/04

Route 179 transitions into PA 179 (Bridge Street) midway across the span at the state line. PA 179 follows Bridge Street through Downtown New Hope to its end at U.S. 202 outside the borough. 10/03/04
The Route 179 and PA 179 bridge across the Delaware River is a lot like the Washington Crossing Bridge (CR 546 / PA 532) to the south. The span has a metal bridge deck, a 15 mph speed limit, and includes a sidewalk along the south side. Decorative light fixtures illuminate the roadway and sidewalks throughout the crossing. 10/03/04
